Rather than a rigid ring to be threaded onto a cable, it is a soft sleeve that wraps around the conductor and closes on itself. It measures current where a conventional transformer will not fit: on large busbars, on bundles of cables, or in panels where the line cannot be broken to slip a toroid over it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n \u003cp\u003eThe coil connects straight to portable instruments such as power analysers and lends itself to energy consumption monitoring, harmonic and high-frequency analysis, and the capture of non-sinusoidal waveforms. The dynamic range is very wide, from 0.1A up to 500kA, with good linearity across the span and a contained error even when the conductor sits off centre.
