What it does
- Each sensor measures the distance between the lid and the waste and converts it into a fill percentage, with one reading every 20 minutes.
- On the platform you set the thresholds, for example 80% and 100%: the list of containers above the threshold tells you where to go and where not to, and the collection round is organised around it.
- The same sensor measures the temperature inside the container: when the threshold is exceeded, for example 60 °C, a notification is sent for an incipient fire.
- The three-axis accelerometer reports when the container is tilted or overturned: vandalism, impacts, wind.
- The fill-level history shows which containers fill up quickly and which stay half empty: it helps you review frequencies, volumes and positions.
- The outdoor gateway, on a pole or on a municipal building, collects the data of the containers in the neighbourhood and sends it to the cloud over the network or on 4G.
- History, charts and notifications can be consulted from a smartphone and from a PC; the data can also be sent to your waste collection management software.

How it is installed
Gateway. On top of a pole (diameter from 67 to 127 mm) or on the upper part of a building wall, as high as possible in relation to the nearby roofs, with the two antennas vertical and at least 35 cm from the walls. PoE power along the Ethernet cable, with the injector indoors near a socket. Connectors wrapped with insulating tape and waterproof tape, earth connection made. IP67 protection, operation from -40 to +70 °C.
Sensor position. Under the lid, horizontal, in the centre of the container, with the transducer facing the bottom and the field clear: no handles, crossbars or bags hanging in front of it. Where the centre is not feasible, at least 30 cm from the side walls. The beam is 60° wide and measures from 3 to 450 cm.
Fastening. Mark the two holes of the sensor slots on the lid, drill and fasten with two through bolts, tightened from the outside. On a flat masonry surface, use two M4 screws with wall plugs. The sensor is IP67 and works from -30 to +70 °C.
Numbering of the containers. Each sensor has its own numbered label: on the platform it is linked to the container, with address, type of waste and usable height. With the height of the empty container the system calculates the fill percentage. Before closing the lid, check in the app that the sensor is received by the gateway.
Configuration. Via NFC with a smartphone and the manufacturer's free app: switch on the sensor, choose the container mode and the reading interval. The gateway is configured from a browser. No cables and no paid software are needed.
Documentation included. Written installation guide with the position and fastening of the sensor for each type of container, switch-on sequence and criteria for choosing the gateway location, and initial configuration of the fill and temperature thresholds based on the containers indicated when ordering.

Before you order
Do you need an internet connection at the containers?
No. The sensors transmit by radio to the gateway, and only the gateway goes on the network. In the basic version it is connected with the Ethernet cable, which also carries the power, to the network of a building: town hall, school, operational depot, shopping centre. If there is no network at the chosen point, the same gateway works on 4G with a data SIM (not included, any operator, traffic below 1 GB per month): all it needs is a socket for the PoE injector. For points without power, the version with a solar gateway is available. It is chosen when ordering.
How many containers does one gateway cover, and at what distance?
One gateway handles hundreds of sensors: the limit is the distance, not the number. The manufacturer declares up to 2 km in an urban area and 15 km in open field; in a city what counts is the height of the gateway and the buildings in between, and metal containers attenuate the signal. A gateway well positioned high up serves a neighbourhood or a small town; for a wider area, more gateways are added. During installation, the reception of each sensor is checked in the app.
On which containers can it be fitted?
Street waste bins, bottle banks, large-volume wheeled bins, semi-underground and underground containers, skips: anything with a lid or a flat surface above the waste and a usable height of up to 4.5 m. It is suitable for every waste stream: mixed waste, paper, plastic, glass, organic waste, clothing. For small street litter bins, a narrow-beam sensor is more suitable, and we can include it in the kit. The containers are not included.

Does the system calculate the vehicle routes?
No. The manufacturer's platform shows the fill level, thresholds exceeded, history and alarms of each container. Route optimisation is done in your waste collection management software, to which the gateway can send the data.
Battery life
Each sensor has two replaceable lithium batteries, with a declared life of over 10 years with one reading every 20 minutes at 25 °C. More frequent readings, many alarms and harsh temperatures reduce the life. The charge level of each sensor is visible in the app.
Where is the data consulted and are there any subscription fees?
On the manufacturer's app and portal, from a smartphone and a PC, with charts, thresholds and notifications; no fee for basic use. If there is a waste collection management system or a municipal platform, the gateway can also send the data to that system (MQTT or HTTP): the configuration is included.
What happens if the gateway loses its network connection?
The sensors keep measuring and transmitting, but as long as the gateway is without internet, data and notifications do not reach the platform. For the temperature alarm, where time matters, the 4G version or a gateway connected to a reliable network is preferable.
Is an electrician needed?
No. The sensors are battery-powered and are fitted with a drill and two bolts, even in the depot before delivery on the street. The gateway is powered at very low voltage from the Ethernet cable; the PoE injector is plugged into a normal socket indoors.
Do they withstand rain, sun and emptying?
Sensors and gateway are IP67, protected against dust and water. The sensors work from -30 to +70 °C and stay under the lid, out of the path of the waste. The fastening is mechanical, with through bolts, not adhesive. When washing the containers, it is best not to aim the high-pressure jet at the sensor.
