Solar cable is not just any cable: the sheath resists UV and ozone, withstands temperatures from -40 to +90 degrees and has class II double insulation, all required by standard for outdoor DC runs. A single-insulated building cable used in its place cracks within two summers.

MC4 connectors are push-fit and keep an IP68 rating when mated correctly.
