The voltage ratio shows up in the energy balance: to put out 10A at 36V the converter pulls more than 30A at 12V, so the alternator needs headroom and the input cable a proper cross-section. With a smart alternator, pick a model that accepts a varying input voltage.
The charge profile has to be set to the pack chemistry: a lead curve never finishes charging a 36V LiFePO4 pack.
