DC-DC chargers with 12V input and 48V output, to charge a 48V bank from the alternator of a 12V vehicle: models with output current from a few amps up to values suited to light traction packs and 48V on-board systems.
The four to one voltage ratio puts the energy balance centre stage: 10A at 48V takes more than 40A at 12V, near enough all the reserve of a standard alternator. That is why on a vehicle with a 48V pack you always weigh an uprated alternator against a current limited DC-DC.
