Sonoff Zigbee walk-in wardrobe and storeroom kit: the light comes on when you open the door

Open the walk-in wardrobe or storeroom door and the light comes on; close it and the light goes off. A door/window sensor on the door drives a Zigbee relay behind the switch, and if you leave the door open the light still switches off after a few minutes. It is managed from the eWeLink app with the included Sonoff Zigbee bridge.

What you controlThe light in the room, tied to the door being opened.
How you control itAutomatically with the door, or from the switch, the app and by voice.
InstallationThe relay works at 230V: an electrician is needed.

What it does

  • The SNZB-04P door sensor on the door detects opening and closing.
  • On opening, the ZBMINIR2 Zigbee relay switches on the light inside the compartment; on closing, it switches it off.
  • If the door is left open, the light goes off after a time you choose, so it does not stay on for hours.
  • The existing switch keeps working, wired to the relay.
  • You can also switch the light from the eWeLink app or by voice.
Do you have more doors, a built-in wardrobe, or would you rather have an LED strip instead of the ceiling light? Write to us through the contact section and we will adapt the kit.

How to install it

Bridge and network. The ZB Bridge Pro connects to the home 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and goes in a central spot, not too many walls away from the walk-in wardrobe. The ZBMINIR2 relay, being mains powered, also acts as a Zigbee repeater for the door sensor. Power the bridge from a USB adapter and check reception in the app.
Light relay. The ZBMINIR2 relay goes in the back box of the room's light switch, with live and neutral, the output to the lamp and the existing switch wired to its dedicated input. The 230V connections must be made by qualified personnel with the system isolated. If there is no neutral in the box, the electrician brings it over from the junction box.
Contact and wiring. The SNZB-04P sensor is stuck to the frame with double-sided tape, with the magnet on the leaf, aligned and close together when the door is shut. On sliding doors it goes on the closing edge. The Wago connectors are for the relay's joints; deep 503 back boxes or a junction box if the module will not fit behind the switch insert.
App and pairing. Install eWeLink, add the bridge, then pair the relay first and the door sensor afterwards, holding the pairing button down until the LED flashes. Rename the devices: “wardrobe door” and “wardrobe light”. Try opening and closing a few times: in the app the sensor's state must change straight away, and the light must respond to the relay from the switch as well.
Recommended automations. Door opened: light on. Door closed: light off. Light on for more than five minutes: automatic switch-off. For the night you can set a window in which the light stays off, for example if the walk-in wardrobe is in the bedroom.
Contents verified. The SNZB-04P sensor and the ZBMINIR2 relay are Sonoff Zigbee devices and pair with the included ZB Bridge Pro, in the same eWeLink app where the door-light scene is created. The Wago lever connectors for wiring the relay are included; deep 503 back boxes and the Gewiss junction box are optional, for when the module will not fit behind the switch insert or you prefer to mount it in a junction box.

Before you order

Do you need a hub?

Yes, for the Zigbee devices: the Sonoff ZB Bridge Pro included in the kit links them to the home 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and to the eWeLink app. Without the bridge the Zigbee sensors do not work. The bridge is what makes the door sensor and the relay talk to each other.

Does it work with Alexa and Google?

Yes, through the eWeLink app: you link your eWeLink account to the Alexa skill or to the Google Home app and the devices show up there, ready for voice commands and routines. With Apple Home there is no direct integration that we can guarantee for every part of the kit.

Do you need an electrician?

Yes, for the relay: it has to be wired at 230V behind the switch, with the neutral, by qualified personnel with the system isolated. The door sensor, on the other hand, you stick on yourself with the double-sided tape in its box.

Do you need the neutral?

Yes, the ZBMINIR2 relay needs the neutral in the back box. If it is not there, the electrician can bring it from the junction box, or you can choose a relay that works without neutral: write to us from the contacts section before buying and we will point you to a compatible alternative.

What happens if the internet goes down?

The switch still turns the light on and off. The door-to-light scene runs through the bridge: according to the manufacturer some scenes can stay active locally, but without internet you cannot control anything from outside the home and you get no notifications.

Are batteries included?

The SNZB-04P sensor runs on a coin cell, supplied in the box as stated by the manufacturer; the level is shown in eWeLink. The relay and the bridge are mains powered.

Can I add devices?

Yes: a second sensor for another door or for the storage cupboard, more relays for other spaces, a motion sensor where there is no door at all. Everything pairs to the same bridge.

What if a product is out of stock on Amazon?

An item can go out of stock or switch to a new version. Write to us from the contacts section with the kit code: we'll point you to an alternative that works with the other devices and with the coordinator, so the kit stays complete and performs as intended.

Why buy on Amazon?

Purchase, delivery, returns and warranty are handled by Amazon: delivery times, returns and warranty are shown on Amazon at the moment of purchase. The kit itself was put together and tested by us, choosing devices that work with one another plus the accessories needed to install them.
