What it does
- The two Shelly Plug S Gen3 plugs go between the washing machine or tumble dryer plug and the wall socket and measure the power they draw.
- When the consumption stays low for a few minutes the cycle is over: a notification arrives on your phone.
- The Shelly Flood leak sensor, placed on the floor, warns you as soon as it detects water under or behind the appliances.
- The BLU H&T sensor measures the room's temperature and humidity: useful to see whether the laundry hung up is drying and whether there is a risk of condensation.
- The app also shows how much energy each cycle uses, and you can switch the plug off remotely.

How to install it
Wi-Fi network. No hub is needed: the plugs and the water leak sensor connect straight to the home Wi-Fi. Check that the signal reaches the laundry room properly, especially if it is in the cellar or in an outbuilding. The BLU H&T sensor talks over Bluetooth to the nearby latest-generation Shelly devices, which bridge it to Wi-Fi as the manufacturer describes.
Smart plugs. Plug each Plug S Gen3 into the wall socket and the washing machine's or tumble dryer's plug into the smart plug. Do not use power strips or extension leads between the wall socket and the appliance. You need a socket that takes the Plug S's Schuko plug, or an adapter rated for the appliance's power.
Sensors. The leak sensor sits on the floor where the water would reach first: behind the washing machine, near the drain or the hose connection. It must lie flat, with the contacts facing the floor. The H&T sensor fixes to the wall at about a metre and a half, away from the tumble dryer's exhaust and from the radiator.
App and pairing. Install the Shelly app and add the two plugs first, then the leak sensor, following the guided Wi-Fi procedure. The BLU H&T is added from the app as a Bluetooth device and pairs with the nearest plug, which acts as the gateway. Rename each device: “washing machine”, “tumble dryer”, “laundry leak”.
Recommended automations. Washing machine consumption below a few watts for five minutes after a cycle: "wash finished" notification. Same rule for the tumble dryer. Water detected: immediate notification and, if you want, the washing machine socket switched off. High humidity for hours: notification to open the window or switch on the dehumidifier. The thresholds are set by looking at the consumption of a real cycle.
Contents verified. The plugs, the water leak sensor and the temperature sensor are all Shelly and are managed in the same app: the Gen3 plugs connect to Wi-Fi and act as a Bluetooth bridge for the BLU H&T sensor, as stated by the manufacturer, so no hub is needed. There is nothing in the kit to wire: plug-in sockets and battery sensors, ready to put in place.

Do you need a hub?
No. The plugs and the water leak sensor connect straight to the home Wi-Fi. The BLU H&T sensor uses Bluetooth and goes through the Shelly Gen3 plugs, which act as the gateway as the manufacturer describes: they only need to be in the same room or nearby.
Does it work with Alexa and Google?
Yes, through the Shelly integration for Alexa and for Google Home: you link your Shelly account and the plugs show up in the voice app, with their commands. The end-of-wash notifications are handled by the Shelly app. Shelly devices also integrate with Home Assistant.
Do you need an electrician?
No. The plugs go into the wall socket and the sensors are simply set down or fixed with double-sided tape. All you need is a wall socket that takes the smart plug's pin pattern and is rated for the appliance's power, with no power strip in between.
Does it work with any washing machine?
With any plug-in washing machine or tumble dryer, because the socket measures how much they draw: at the end of the cycle consumption drops and the alert is sent. The threshold and the waiting time are set to suit your appliance by watching one cycle in the app. The washing machine does not have to be smart.
What happens if the internet goes down?
The plugs keep working and keep metering, but without internet the notifications do not reach your phone and you cannot control them from outside. The leak sensor still detects the water; the alert arrives once the connection is back. Actions configured locally on the Shelly devices stay active.
Are batteries included?
The BLU H&T sensor runs on a CR2032 coin cell, supplied as stated by the manufacturer; for the Flood S Gen4 leak sensor, check how it is powered on the Amazon listing. The sensors' charge level is shown in the Shelly app.
Can I add devices?
Yes: more leak sensors for the kitchen and the bathroom, a plug for the dehumidifier or a door sensor. All Shelly devices are added in the same app and combine into the same scenes.
