What it does
- The two Sonoff S60TPF sockets switch a lamp, an electric heater or a kettle on and off from the app, on a schedule or with a timer.
- The Sonoff Slim Gen2 1080p camera shows the room live on your phone and records to microSD.
- The Wi-Fi motion sensor sends a notification if it picks up someone while you are out.
- A timer switches the heater off automatically after a set maximum time, even if you forget about it.
- When you move out at the end of the year you unplug the lot and take it to the next room.

How it is installed
Wi-Fi network. No hub is needed: all the devices connect straight to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. In halls of residence the shared network often needs a login page with credentials: smart devices will not join those networks. In that case you need your own router or a 2.4GHz network with a password only.
Sockets. The S60TPF sockets go straight into the wall outlet, with no extension block in between, and take the appliance's plug. They have a Schuko plug: if the room only has small Italian sockets you need an adapter rated for the power, or a dual-standard wall socket. A fan heater always goes on its own dedicated wall socket.
Camera and sensor. The camera is USB-powered from the supply included in the kit and goes on a shelf or on the desk, with the High Endurance microSD fitted before you switch it on. The motion sensor is fixed to the wall or stood on a piece of furniture at about two metres, facing the door rather than the window.
App and pairing. Install eWeLink and add one device at a time with the wizard: sockets, camera and sensor all join the Wi-Fi. Give every device a clear name, “lamp”, “heater” and “room movement” for example, and check that notifications are switched on on your phone.
Recommended automations. Movement detected while away mode is on: a notification. Heater switched off automatically after an hour. Lamp on at a set time in the evening. The camera can record only when the sensor picks up movement, so the microSD lasts longer and you find the moments that matter straight away.
Contents verified. The sockets, the camera and the motion sensor are Sonoff Wi-Fi and are all run from the eWeLink app, where they combine into the same scenes: no hub is needed. Included are a High Endurance microSD for the camera recordings and a 5V USB power supply, which is not in the box.

Before you order
Do you need a hub?
No: the plugs, the camera and the motion sensor are Wi-Fi and connect straight to the router. All you need is a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network with a password; hall-of-residence networks with a login page do not work with smart devices.
Does it work with Alexa and Google?
Yes, through the eWeLink app: you link the account to the Alexa skill or to the Google Home app and control the sockets by voice. The camera can be viewed on compatible screens, as the manufacturer states.
Do you need an electrician?
No. Plug-in sockets, a USB-powered camera and a sensor on double-sided tape: no work on the installation and nothing to ask the landlord. Just check that you have a socket that takes the Schuko plug on the smart plugs.
What happens if there is no internet?
The sockets can still be controlled from their own key. Without internet you get no notifications, cannot see the camera from away and cannot control anything remotely; the camera can carry on recording to microSD as set. When the line comes back everything resumes.
Are batteries included?
The sockets and the camera are mains powered. The Wi-Fi motion sensor runs on batteries: check the Amazon listing for the type and whether it is in the box. The charge level shows in the eWeLink app.
Can I add devices?
Yes: a door contact, a smart bulb or more sockets. Every Sonoff Wi-Fi device is added in the same eWeLink app; Zigbee devices, on the other hand, need a bridge. New devices drop straight into the scenes you have already built.
What if a product is out of stock on Amazon?
