Shelly flood protection kit with DN15 valve and 3 flood sensors

Three Shelly flood sensors under the washing machine, the sink and the boiler, plus a FrankEver DN15 Powered by Shelly motorised valve on the water pipe: when a sensor picks up water on the floor, the valve shuts the inlet by itself and the notification reaches your phone. All over Wi-Fi, with no hub, from the Shelly app.

Who it is forAnyone who has already had a leak, or whose appliances and boiler sit where water would not be seen straight away.
What you monitorThree spots at risk of leaking and the home's water inlet.
How you control itShelly app: notifications, opening and closing the valve, automatic scenes.
InstallationExperienced DIY: the valve is fitted into the pipe, the sensors just sit on the floor.

What it does

  • The two Shelly Flood Gen4 units with the probe cable pick up water even in tight spots, such as under the washing machine or behind the sink unit.
  • The Shelly Flood S Gen4, rated IP67, goes at the most exposed points, under the boiler or in the utility room for example.
  • When a sensor detects water it sends a notification and, through a scene in the Shelly app, closes the FrankEver valve.
  • The DN15 motorised valve shuts the water off on the incoming pipe, so a leak stops even when you are away.
  • From the app you can also open and close the valve by hand, for example when you go away on holiday.
  • Once the leak is sorted you reopen the valve from the app.
A pipe of a different diameter, more spots to watch or a house on several floors? Get in touch through the contact page and we will suggest the right valve and the right number of sensors.

How it is installed

Wi-Fi network. Valve and sensors join the home Wi-Fi directly, with no hub. Check with your phone that the signal is good where the water pipe runs and in the rooms with sensors, often the laundry, the bathroom or the space under the stairs, where coverage is weakest. Add a repeater if you need one.
Valve on the pipe. The DN15 valve goes on the incoming water pipe, downstream of the main stopcock, on 1/2 inch pipework. Turn the water off, cut or dismantle the section of pipe and fit the valve with its seals, following the manufacturer's instructions. If you have no plumbing experience, have a plumber do the job.
Sensors and power supply. Lay the two Flood Gen4 units behind the washing machine and under the sink, running the sensor lead to the lowest point where water would collect. The Flood S Gen4 goes under the boiler or wherever splashes are most likely. The Flood Gen4 units take AA cells, as the name says; the valve is powered as the manufacturer specifies.
App and pairing. In the Shelly app add the valve and the three sensors one at a time, naming each after its room. Test the valve by opening and closing it from the app. Then wet one sensor's contacts lightly with a damp cloth to check the notification comes through, and dry it straight afterwards.
Recommended automations. Set up a scene: if any of the three sensors detects water, close the valve and send a notification. Add a "Holiday" scene that closes the valve when you go away for a few days. Once a month open and close the valve from the app, so the mechanism stays free.
Contents verified. The FrankEver DN15 Powered by Shelly valve and the Shelly Flood Gen4 and Flood S Gen4 sensors are all managed in the Shelly app, over Wi-Fi and with no hub: automatic shut-off is set up as a scene. The kit needs nothing beyond the plumbing fittings for installing the valve.

Before you order

Do you need a hub?

No. The valve and the Shelly sensors connect straight to the home Wi-Fi and are managed from the Shelly app. Automatic water shut-off is set up with a scene linking the sensors to the valve.

Will the valve fit my pipe?

The valve is DN15, that is for 1/2 inch pipework, the commonest size in flats after the meter. Check your pipe diameter before buying: if it is different, get in touch through the contact page and we will tell you which version to use.

Do you need a plumber or an electrician?

Not for the sensors. The valve has to go into the water pipe: if you have no experience, have a plumber fit it. If a new socket is needed to power the valve, that 230V work must be done by a qualified person with the supply isolated.

What happens if there is no internet?

Scenes in the Shelly app go through the cloud: without internet the automatic shut-off may not happen, apart from local actions between devices where the manufacturer provides them. You get no notifications, but the valve and the main stopcock can always be closed by hand.

Are batteries included?

The Flood Gen4 run on AA cells, as the product name says; the Flood S Gen4 has its own battery supply. Whether they come in the box is stated on each product's listing on Amazon. The charge level is checked in the Shelly app.

Does it work with Alexa, Google and Apple?

Shelly devices connect to Alexa and Google Home through the integrations in the Shelly app, as far as each model allows. For automatic water shut-off, the scenes in the Shelly app are the most direct way.

Can I add sensors?

Yes, more Shelly flood sensors can be added to the app and to the same shut-off scene: under the dishwasher, by the water heater or in the bathroom, for example. Get in touch if the house is on several floors, so we can check the Wi-Fi coverage.

What if a product is out of stock on Amazon?

Get in touch through the contact page quoting the kit code and the product you cannot find: we will point you to an alternative that works with the valve and the Shelly app, so you keep a combination we have checked and you do not have to hunt for an equivalent model yourself.

Why buy on Amazon?

Purchase, payment, returns and warranty are handled by Amazon, as with any other order on the site. The kit is our own work and we checked that the parts work together; delivery times, returns and warranty are shown on Amazon when you buy.
