Interlinked Aqara smoke alarm kit, 3 rooms

Three Aqara Zigbee smoke alarms linked to the M100 hub: when one detects smoke it sounds locally, the notification reaches your phone and the scenes you have set up can start, such as sounding the other alarms too or switching the lights on. You fit it yourself, with no cabling, and run it from the Aqara Home app.

Who it is forFor anyone who wants to cover the kitchen, the living room and the bedroom corridor and know about an alarm straight away, even when away from home.
What you monitorThree battery smoke alarms, each with its own sounder, and their status in the app.
How you control itAqara Home app, with push notifications; the M100 hub also brings the devices into Apple Home and, over Matter, into other ecosystems.
InstallationDIY: the hub plugs into a USB power supply, the detectors screw to the ceiling with wall plugs.

What it does

  • Each detector sounds its own siren as soon as it detects smoke, even if the home network is down.
  • At the same time the M100 hub gets the alarm over Zigbee and the Aqara Home app pushes the notification to your phone.
  • An automation in the app can sound the other two detectors as well, so an alarm in the kitchen is heard in the bedroom too.
  • The same automations can switch on lights or switch off Aqara smart sockets added later.
  • In the app you see the state of every detector, the battery level and the alarm history.
  • The regular test is done with the button on the detector, just as with a conventional one.
For more rooms, a house on two floors or to add flood and gas sensors to the same hub, get in touch from the contact page and we will tell you which configuration suits.
Interlinked Aqara smoke alarm kit: installation diagram
1Aqara M100 hub: it goes into a USB power supply in a socket in a central part of the house, connected to the Wi-Fi. It takes in the alarms over Zigbee and sends the notifications.
2Aqara smoke detector on the ceiling, in the middle of the room and away from corners and extractor hoods. Three in the kit.

How it is installed

Hub and network. Plug the M100 hub into one of the kit's USB power supplies and into a socket in a central position, not shut inside a metal cabinet. In the Aqara Home app you create the account, add the hub and connect it to the home 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. The hub stays on at all times: it is what receives the detectors' alarms and sends the notifications.
Smoke detectors. Fit one detector in the kitchen or the living area, one in the bedroom corridor and one in whichever room you think is most at risk. It goes on the ceiling, away from corners and air currents, not above the hob or near the extractor hood or the bathroom, where steam and cooking fumes cause false alarms. It fixes with the base plate, screws and plugs.
Power supply and accessories. The detectors are battery-powered and need no cables. The hub takes its power from a USB port: that is why the kit has three 5V USB power supplies, because the hub comes without one. The other two are there for a second hub or for other USB-powered Aqara devices.
App and pairing. In the app pick the hub, tap add device and follow the procedure for the smoke detector: hold the button down until the indicator flashes, then assign it to its room. Pair it near the hub, then fit the detector in place and check from the app that it responds. Repeat for the other two and give each a clear name.
Recommended automations. Set up three automations: if one detector senses smoke, make the other two sound as well; if there is an alarm, send the notification to everyone in the household; if you have Aqara smart lights, bring them to full brightness during the alarm. Test it with the test button on each detector, then repeat the test once a month.
Contents verified. The Aqara M100 hub runs the Aqara Zigbee devices, the kit's smoke alarms among them, and brings them into the app and into automations. The kit contains a pack of three 5V USB power supplies, because the hub runs off a USB port and has no power supply in the box.

Before you order

Do you need a hub?

Yes: the kit's Aqara detectors are Zigbee and talk to the M100 hub, which is included. Without the hub they would still sound locally, but they would send no notifications and could not set off the other detectors or the scenes. One hub is enough for the whole house.

Does it work with Alexa, Google or Apple?

The kit runs from the Aqara Home app. The M100 hub brings the devices into Apple Home where Aqara supports it and, as a Matter bridge, into Alexa and Google Home too. Keep the alarm automations between the detectors in the Aqara app, which runs them on the hub itself.

Do you need an electrician?

No. The detectors are battery-powered and fix to the ceiling with screws and wall plugs; the hub goes into a USB power supply in an ordinary socket. All you need is a drill and a stable ladder for mounting.

What happens if there is no internet?

Each detector still sounds its own siren. Without internet, notifications do not reach your phone when you are away from home. Automations between devices on the same hub, as the manufacturer describes, can keep running locally as long as the hub and the home Wi-Fi are on.

Can I add more detectors or sensors?

Yes. You can pair more Aqara smoke detectors, flood sensors, door sensors and lights to the same M100 hub. In large houses or ones on several floors it is worth keeping the hub somewhere central; get in touch through the contact page if you want a build for more rooms.

Are batteries included?

The Aqara smoke detector runs on the battery the manufacturer supplies in the box; life and replacement are as stated in the instructions. The hub has no battery: it runs off the USB power supplies included in the kit. The detectors' charge level is checked in the app.

Where do the detectors go?

On the ceiling, in the middle of the room or hallway, away from corners, windows and air vents. Keep it out of the kitchen directly above the hob and out of the bathroom, so steam and cooking fumes do not set off false alarms: better the living area next to the kitchen and the bedroom hallway.

What if a product is out of stock on Amazon?

It happens, above all with multipacks and products that have only just come out. Get in touch through the contact page with the kit code and the item you cannot find: we will tell you the compatible alternative for the rest of the build, so the kit still works as described.

Why buy on Amazon?

We put the kit together and tested it ourselves, choosing the parts and checking that they work together. Purchase, payment, returns and warranty are handled by Amazon: delivery times, returns and warranty are shown on Amazon at the time of purchase, item by item.
