An ultrasonic ceiling sensor above each bay detects whether the space is free or occupied and transmits it by LoRaWAN radio. Battery-powered sensors, no cabling to run in the garage, real-time status and occupancy history from app and PC.
What it does
- Each sensor measures the distance downwards from the ceiling by ultrasound: with a vehicle underneath the distance shortens and the bay switches to occupied; when the vehicle leaves it goes back to free.
- The status change is transmitted by radio to the gateway of that level, which forwards it to the platform over the car park network.
- From the platform you see the status of every bay in real time, grouped by level and by zone.
- The history records every status change with date and time: from it you obtain occupancy by time slot and by day, the length of stays and the rarely used bays.
- The status of each bay can be sent to your management software, to an app or to the system that drives the free-space signage.
- Each sensor also measures temperature and reports if it has been tilted or detached from the ceiling.

How it is installed
What is in the kit

| Qty | Device | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | Compact indoor LoRaWAN gateway | They collect the bay status and forward it to the platform. Ethernet or Wi-Fi, USB-C 5 V power supply. |
| 40 | Ultrasonic bay occupancy sensor, IP67 | It detects the presence of the vehicle beneath it, from 3 to 450 cm. It also measures temperature and reports tilting. |
Milesight devices of the highest quality with the manufacturer's warranty. Batteries included in the sensors, replaceable, with a declared life of about 5 years in parking mode with 12 status changes per day; the gateways are mains-powered.
Available sizes
The size is chosen at the top, together with version and connectivity. The diagram, the photo and the table above show the «40 bays» size; with the other sizes only the quantities of the devices listed below change, the rest of the kit is identical.
- 20 bays: 20 ultrasonic sensors
- 40 bays: 40 ultrasonic sensors
- 60 bays: 60 ultrasonic sensors
- 100 bays: 100 ultrasonic sensors
In the complete kit the installation material linked to these devices (brackets, boxes, clips, cables, enclosures) follows the size chosen. For a different size write to us from the contacts section.
Available connectivity options
- Customer network (Ethernet/Wi-Fi): 2 compact indoor LoRaWAN gateways
- Large building (IP65 gateway, PoE): 2 semi-industrial LoRaWAN gateways
- Built-in 4G: 2 compact LoRaWAN gateways with 4G. 2 SIMs not included; check the cellular signal on the underground levels
In the complete kit the material for the gateway changes accordingly as well (network cable, pole, PoE injector). The SIM for the 4G versions is not included.
Choose the version
- The Milesight devices in the table
- Installation guide and initial configuration
- For those who already have brackets, anchors and network cables
- Everything in the basic version
- 40 ceiling brackets, one per sensor, for down-stand beams, services and suspended ceilings
- Ethernet cable to connect the gateway to the network
- Anchors, screws, cable ties and adhesive cable clips
- Numbered labels for the bays and installation diagram
Before you order
Is an internet connection needed in the car park?
It is needed at the point where the gateways are installed: a network socket or the building's Wi-Fi coverage. The sensors do not use Wi-Fi, they talk by radio to the gateway. If there is no line in the car park, the version with a 4G gateway is available: each gateway requires a data SIM (not included, any operator, traffic below 1 GB per month) and a spot where the cellular signal arrives, something to be checked on the underground levels. It is chosen when ordering.
Are two gateways enough for my car park?
In a garage the range depends on floor slabs, reinforced concrete walls and ramps: for this reason the kit provides one gateway per level or per wing, in a central position. On the same level one gateway covers the 40 bays without difficulty and manages many more. For large structures, several blocks or very thick slabs there is the «large building» version, with semi-industrial IP65 gateways of greater range, which can also be powered via PoE and are suitable for damp or unheated environments. For each additional level one gateway is added.
Does it work with any ceiling and any vehicle?
The sensor measures from 3 to 450 cm, so it covers the usual heights of covered car parks. It detects cars, vans and SUVs; for motorcycles and bicycles, which take up a small part of the bay, detection depends on the position of the vehicle. It must be mounted horizontally, no less than 30 cm from walls and pillars and with no pipes or conduits in the measuring cone. For open-air bays, with no ceiling, this kit is not suitable: write to us from the contacts section.
Does it connect to the signage, to the pay station or to our app?
The kit provides the data: status of each bay, count of free spaces per zone, history. The gateway can send it to your management software, to an app or to the system that controls panels and bay lights (MQTT or HTTP). Variable message panels, bay lights, barriers and pay stations are not included and are not controlled directly by the kit.
I have more or fewer than 40 bays
Among the product options you will find the 20-bay and 100-bay sizes. The kit is in any case configured on the building: one sensor is added for each bay and one gateway for each level, the platform stays the same. For 200 bays and above, or for an unusual distribution of the levels, write to us from the contacts section with the number of bays, levels and floor plan: we will send you the composition and the quotation for the adapted kit.
Battery life
Each sensor has two replaceable lithium batteries. In parking mode the manufacturer declares about 5 years with 12 status changes per day at 25 °C; bays with very high turnover consume more. The charge level of each sensor is visible in the app, so replacements can be planned in good time.
Where is the data consulted and are there subscription fees?
On the manufacturer's app and portal, from smartphone and PC, with charts, thresholds and notifications; no fee for basic use. Where there is car park management software or a business management system, the gateway can also send the data to that system (MQTT or HTTP): the configuration is included.
What happens if the internet is down?
The sensors keep detecting and transmitting to the gateway, but until the line comes back the status of the bays is not updated on the platform. When it is restored the system resumes on its own, with no intervention. If the real-time data feeds the signage, it is best to connect the gateways to a reliable line and to a supply protected by a UPS.
Is an electrician needed?
No. The sensors are battery-powered and are fixed with two screws. The gateways need a USB-C 5 V power supply and a network socket or Wi-Fi. The work is at height: a mobile scaffold or platform and a drill for the anchors in the concrete are needed.
Do they withstand humidity, dust and exhaust fumes?
The sensors are IP67, with an operating temperature from -30 to +70 °C: they work permanently in damp and unheated garages. The compact gateways are for indoor use, IP30, from -20 to +50 °C, and go in a dry room; if there is no such room, choose the version with an IP65 gateway.
What is not included
- Free-space panels, bay lights, barriers and pay stations
- The car park management software and any app for users
- The data SIMs, in the version with a 4G gateway
- The USB power supplies of the compact gateways and the equipment for working at height
