What it does

  • Home Assistant Green, with the Sonoff Z-Wave 800 Plus dongle, runs the Z-Wave network locally.
  • The Wave Pro Dimmer 2PM on DIN rail dims two dimmable lighting circuits and meters their power.
  • The Wave Pro Shutter on DIN rail drives a motorised roller shutter with opening as a percentage once calibrated.
  • The wall buttons wired to the module inputs carry on controlling the lights and the roller shutter.
  • Automations in Home Assistant: shutter down at sunset, light at 30 per cent in the evening, scenes for the whole house.
More lighting circuits, more roller shutters or awnings to control? Get in touch via the contact page and we will build the kit with the right number of modules and the right board.

1Home Assistant Green next to the router, wired with a network cable: it runs devices, automations and the app.
2Sonoff Z-Wave 800 Plus dongle in the Green's USB port, better on a USB extension lead: this is the Z-Wave radio.

How it is installed

Home Assistant and Z-Wave radio. Home Assistant Green goes next to the router and connects with the network cable; it is set up from the browser or from the Home Assistant app. The Sonoff Z-Wave 800 Plus dongle goes in a USB port on the Green, best on a USB extension lead (not included) to keep it away from the router and metal parts. In Home Assistant you add the Z-Wave integration, which picks up the dongle.
Modules in the board. With the installation isolated at the main board, Wave Pro Dimmer 2PM and Wave Pro Shutter mount on DIN rail in a board or consumer unit with free ways. The dimmer takes the supply, the two lighting circuits and the push-buttons; the shutter takes the supply, the two motor phases and the double push-button, following the manufacturer's diagrams. Work on 230V must be carried out by qualified personnel.
Wiring and loads. The kit does not include an enclosure, connectors or ferrules: you need a board with at least the free DIN ways for the two modules, plus the usual wiring sundries. The lamps must be dimmable and stay within the maximum load the dimmer's manufacturer states. The roller shutter must already have a 230V motor with separate up and down controls.
Pairing. In Home Assistant you add the two Z-Wave modules by scanning their QR code (SmartStart) or with the manufacturer's inclusion procedure: it pays to photograph the codes before you close the board. Then start the shutter calibration from the module options, name the circuits and the shutter and install the Home Assistant app on the phones.
Recommended automations. Shutter up in the morning and down at sunset, halfway through the hot hours in summer. Living room lights at 30 per cent in the evening on a timed automation. An “out” scene that switches the lights off and closes the shutter. A notification if a lighting circuit stays on overnight, thanks to the dimmer's power measurement.
Contents verified. The Wave Pro Dimmer 2PM and the Wave Pro Shutter are Z-Wave devices managed by Home Assistant Green through the Sonoff Z-Wave 800 Plus dongle, which the Home Assistant Z-Wave integration recognises. The kit includes no wiring accessories: enclosure, connectors and ferrules are added if the existing board has no free ways or if you do not already have them.

Before you order

Do you need a hub?

Yes, and it is included: Home Assistant Green is the hub and the Sonoff Z-Wave 800 Plus dongle gives it the Z-Wave radio. The Shelly Wave Pro modules do not use Wi-Fi and without a Z-Wave controller they cannot be controlled from an app.

Does it work with Alexa, Google and Apple?

Yes, by going through Home Assistant. With Apple Home via Home Assistant's HomeKit Bridge integration, free and local. With Alexa and Google Home via Home Assistant Cloud, a subscription service, or by setting it up by hand. Z-Wave devices do not reach voice assistants directly.

Do you need an electrician?

Yes. The modules wire into the 230V line, behind the switches, in the junction boxes or in the board: the connections must be made by qualified personnel, with the installation isolated at the main board. The Wave Pro modules are DIN rail and go in the board or in a consumer unit with spare ways.

What happens if there is no internet?

Almost nothing changes: Home Assistant works locally and the Z-Wave network does not use the internet, so automations, control from the home network and the switches all keep working. With the line down you only lose control from outside the house and the voice assistants, which come back with the connection.

Does it work with any light and roller shutter?

The dimmer only dims dimmable lamps, within the maximum power stated by the manufacturer. The roller shutter has to have a 230V motor already, with separate up and down, the kind on the classic two-button switch; belt-driven shutters and radio motors with their own control cannot be connected.

Can I add devices?

Yes: Home Assistant handles plenty of Z-Wave devices, including those from other brands. You can add more Wave Pro units in the board, flush-mounted Shelly Wave modules, Z-Wave opening or flood sensors, and drive them all from the same automations.

Are batteries included?

Not needed: the modules are powered from the 230V circuit and Home Assistant Green from its own power supply. There are no battery-powered devices in the kit. If you add battery sensors or buttons later, the battery type is given in each product's specifications and normally comes in the box.

What if a product is out of stock on Amazon?

Get in touch through the contact page quoting the kit code: we will point you to a compatible alternative, with the same protocol and the same functions, so the rest of the kit stays as it is and the installation instructions still hold.

Why buy on Amazon?

Purchase, delivery, returns and warranty are handled by Amazon: delivery times, returns and warranty are shown on Amazon when you buy. The kit is our own work: the products work together and the basket already holds them in the right quantities.
