What it does
- When somebody rings, the G4 sends the call to your phone and sounds the chime indoors: you see the caller and speak to them.
- Face recognition tells enrolled family members from strangers, so the notification says who is at the door.
- Callers and movement in front of the door are recorded on the 64GB microSD included.
- The waterproof cover protects the doorbell from rain and splashes where there is no porch over the door.
- The M100 hub brings Zigbee, Thread and Matter into the home: door or motion sensors, or an Aqara lock, pair with it.
- The hub lets you build automations such as switching the hall light on when someone rings in the evening.

How it is installed
Hub and network. Plug the M100 hub into one of the kit's USB power supplies and into a permanently live socket in a central position in the house. It is added to the Aqara Home app over the home Wi-Fi. The G4 video doorbell, on the other hand, joins the Wi-Fi directly: check with your phone that the signal reaches properly outside the door.
Video doorbell. Fix the G4 bracket beside the door, about 1.4 m off the ground, with the screws or the double-sided tape supplied, facing whoever arrives. Choose between battery power and the wires of the existing doorbell, following the manufacturer's instructions. If the entrance is exposed, fit the doorbell inside the weatherproof housing included.
Chime and storage. Plug the chime into a socket indoors, somewhere it can be heard throughout the house. Fit the 64GB SanDisk High Endurance microSD in the slot the manufacturer shows: it is a card built for continuous writing. The kit's three USB power supplies are for the hub, which comes without one, and the rest stay as spares.
App and pairing. In the Aqara Home app add the M100 hub, then the G4 video doorbell with the setup wizard and the home Wi-Fi. Register the family's faces for recognition, set the detection zone in front of the door and choose your notifications. Check the microSD is recognised and make a test call.
Recommended automations. Set a different notification for family and for strangers, and recording of callers while you are out. If you add a smart light by the door, have it come on when someone rings after dark. With a door contact on the hub, you get an alert when the door is left open after a caller.
Contents verified. The G4 video doorbell joins the Wi-Fi and the Aqara Home app; the M100 hub is there to add Aqara Zigbee and Thread devices. The kit includes the waterproof case for the G4, a 64GB SanDisk High Endurance microSD, because the doorbell comes with no storage, and three 5V 2A USB power supplies, because the hub's box has no power supply.

Before you order
Do you need a hub?
The G4 video doorbell joins the Wi-Fi directly and works without a hub too. The M100 hub included is there to extend the entrance with Aqara Zigbee or Thread devices, such as door contacts, motion sensors and locks, and to automate between them.
Does it work with Alexa, Google and Apple?
The manufacturer states that the G4 works with Apple Home, HomeKit Secure Video included with an Apple hub, and with Alexa and Google for viewing on compatible screens. The M100 hub supports Matter for the Aqara devices connected to it. The full set-up is done in the Aqara Home app.
Battery or doorbell wires?
The G4 works both ways, as the manufacturer states: on batteries it goes anywhere with no cables, and wired to an existing doorbell you never have to recharge it. If you use the wires, first check that the old bell's voltage is compatible.
Do you need an electrician?
No: with batteries or with the existing doorbell's low-voltage wires, fitting is a DIY job. If you have to install a new 230V transformer to feed the bell, that work must be done by a qualified person with the supply isolated.
What happens if there is no internet?
The doorbell still rings the chime in the house and keeps recording to the microSD. Without internet, though, the call does not reach your phone and you cannot see the images from away; the hub's local automations carry on working.
Are batteries included?
The battery type, the battery life and whether they come in the box are as the manufacturer states on the G4's Amazon listing. Battery life depends on how many visits and movements it records. The charge level is checked in the Aqara Home app.
Can I add devices?
Yes: you can pair Aqara door contacts, motion sensors, buttons and compatible locks to the M100 hub. For a smart lock on the same door, get in touch through the contact page: we will tell you which model suits your cylinder.
