Customisable kits. This is one of the Milesight LoRaWAN kits in the Smart Home section. For different installations, bespoke kits or custom automations, write to us from the contact section.
Several sizes. The figures, diagram and table on this page describe the «6 stalls» size. The other sizes are selected at the top and are listed further down, under «Available sizes».
6 doors monitoredStalls, tack room, hay barn: an immediate notification at every opening outside working hours.
Night-time movementTwo presence sensors in the aisle and at the entrance, with a range of up to 8 m.
Stable airAmmonia up to 10 ppm, temperature and humidity: you can see when to redo the bedding and open up.
Water and emergenciesLevel of the water tank in centimetres and two SOS buttons for the indoor arena and the round pen.

What it does

  • Six magnetic contacts signal the opening of the stall doors, of the tack room and of the hay barn: at night the notification arrives, during the day the history remains.
  • Two movement sensors cover the entrance and the aisle and signal someone passing when the stable should be empty.
  • The ammonia detector measures from 0 to 10 ppm, with temperature and humidity: the trend shows when the bedding needs redoing and whether the ventilation is enough.
  • Two temperature and humidity sensors follow the climate of the stable and of a second room, for example the hay barn or the tack room.
  • The ultrasonic sensor above the water tank gives the water level and warns you before the drinkers run dry.
  • The two SOS buttons, in the indoor arena and at the round pen, send a call for help to the phone of the people you name.
  • History, charts and notifications can be consulted from smartphone and from PC.
For a different number of stalls, more stables, distant paddocks and arenas, more emergency buttons, if the stable has no internet connection and a 4G gateway is needed, or for large centres that require an outdoor gateway: tell us the features of your centre from the contact section and we will propose the right configuration together with the quotation.
Litio Store stable and riding school kit: installation diagram in the stable
1Wall-mounted LoRaWAN gateway in the stable or in the club house, connected to the network of the centre: it collects the data and takes it to the cloud.
2Magnetic contact on the doors of stalls, tack room and hay barn, high up and sheltered. Six in the kit.
3Wall-mounted movement sensor, at the entrance and in the aisle. Two in the kit.
4Ammonia, temperature and humidity detector on the wall in the stable, 2-2.5 m above the ground.
5IP67 temperature and humidity sensor. Two in the kit: stable and second room.
6Ultrasonic level sensor above the water tank.
7Red SOS button, in the indoor arena and at the round pen, sheltered from the rain. Two in the kit.

How it is installed

Gateway. On a wall or on a pole, high up, in the stable, in the tack room or in the club house, away from metal masses. Powered by the supplied power adapter or via PoE, network connection with an Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi. IP65 protection, operation from -40 to +70 °C: it withstands the dust and humidity of the stable.
Contacts on the doors. Sensor on the frame and magnet on the leaf, with the notches facing each other: with the door closed the two parts must be within 20 mm of each other, with less than 20 mm of offset. They are for indoor use (IP20): they go on the aisle side, in the upper part of the door, out of the reach of the horse and sheltered from rain and washing. Fixed with screws or with the double-sided tape on a clean and dry surface, which grips completely in 24 hours. On iron doors and frames, test the operation before fixing them for good.
Movement and ammonia. Movement sensors on the wall between 1.5 and 2.5 m above the ground, aimed at the entrance and the aisle and not at the stall windows: the sensor senses moving heat, including that of a horse putting its head out. Range 8 m, 120° horizontally. Ammonia detector on the wall between 2 and 2.5 m, away from doors, windows and fans, out of reach of splashes and hay dust; after switching on, about 30 minutes are needed before the readings are valid. Both IP30.
Climate, water tank and buttons. Temperature and humidity sensors on the wall with screws or a cable tie, out of the reach of the horses. Ultrasonic sensor on a bracket above the water tank, vertically, more than 30 cm from the wall and away from the filling jet, with at least 25 cm between the sensor and the maximum level; not suitable for tanks with a domed top. SOS buttons with screws or double-sided tape, within reach of anyone on the ground; they are IP30: at the round pen they go under a canopy or in a box.
Configuration. Via NFC with a smartphone and the free app from the manufacturer: names of doors and rooms, thresholds, reading intervals, height of the water tank. The gateway is configured from a browser. Time bands and recipients of the notifications are set on the portal. No PC and no cables are needed.
Documentation included. Written installation guide with heights, distances, orientation of the movement sensors and power-up sequence, plus the initial configuration of time bands, thresholds and recipients based on the stable specified when ordering.

Available sizes

The size is selected at the top, together with version and connectivity. The diagram, the photo and the table above show the «6 stalls» size; with the other sizes only the quantities of the devices listed below change, the rest of the kit is identical.

  • 6 stalls: 6 magnetic contacts, 2 movement sensors
  • 12 stalls: 12 magnetic contacts, 3 movement sensors
  • 18 stalls: 18 magnetic contacts, 4 movement sensors

In the complete kit the installation material linked to these devices (brackets, pockets, clips, cables, boxes) follows the size chosen. For a different size, write to us from the contact section.

Available connectivity

  • Customer network (Ethernet/Wi-Fi): 1 semi-industrial LoRaWAN gateway
  • Built-in 4G: 1 semi-industrial LoRaWAN gateway with 4G. SIM not included
  • Extended outdoor coverage (Ethernet PoE or 4G): 1 outdoor LoRaWAN gateway. For centres with distant paddocks and arenas; IP67, on a pole; PoE injector supplied, 4G on board with the customer SIM not included; outdoor network cable not included

In the complete kit the material for the gateway (network cable, pole, PoE injector) changes accordingly. The SIM for the 4G versions is not included.

Before you order

Is an internet connection needed in the stable?

It is needed at the point where the gateway is installed: a network socket or Wi-Fi coverage, in the club house or in the office as well. The sensors do not use Wi-Fi, they talk to the gateway by radio. If the centre has no line, the version with a 4G gateway is available, which requires a data SIM (not included, any operator, traffic below 1 GB per month). It is chosen when ordering.

Does the signal reach the arenas and the paddocks?

Stable, tack room and a nearby indoor arena are covered by the basic gateway, for which the manufacturer states up to 2 km in built-up areas; sheet metal and thick walls reduce the range. For large centres, with several stables, distant paddocks and arenas, choose the version with an outdoor gateway, on a pole in a commanding position: up to 15 km in open field.

Does the movement sensor tell a person from a horse?

No: it detects a warm body that moves. This is why it must be aimed at the entrance, the aisle and the tack room, not at the stall openings, and the notifications are active only in the time bands when the stable is closed. Stable cats and dogs can set it off.

Is the ammonia detector suited to a stable?

It measures ammonia from 0 to 10 ppm with a resolution of 0.01 ppm, the range within which a well-kept stable must stay; above 10 ppm it remains at full scale. It is designed for closed and clean environments and is IP30: it must be mounted high up, away from hay dust and splashes. The measuring cells have a life of about 3 years, after which the detector must be replaced. It is a management instrument, not a safety device.

Do the contacts hold up on outdoor stall doors?

No. They are for indoor use, IP20, from -20 to +60 °C: they go on doors that open onto a covered aisle or are in any case sheltered from rain and washing. For stalls with a door straight to the outside, gates and paddocks, write to us from the contact section: we replace the contact with an IP67 model with a wired magnet.

Does the SOS button call the emergency services?

No. It sends a notification to the people you name, who must have their phone with them and with network coverage. It has an audible warning and distinguishes a short, a long and a double press. It is an aid for anyone working or riding alone: it does not replace the phone, the emergency number and the safety rules of the centre.

I have more than 6 stalls

The kit is configured on the stable: every extra door requires a contact, gateway and platform stay the same. Among the product options you will find the 12-stall size, with one more movement sensor. For more stables or different situations, write to us from the contact section stating the number of stalls, rooms and distances: we will send you the composition and the quotation of the adapted kit.

Battery life

Magnetic contacts: over 5 years. Movement sensors: about 4 years with 30 activations a day. Ammonia detector: about 3 years. Temperature and humidity sensors and level sensor: up to 10 years with one reading every 10 minutes. SOS buttons: over 7 years. Replaceable lithium batteries, level visible in the app.

Where is the data consulted and are there any fees?

On the app and on the portal of the manufacturer, from smartphone and PC, with charts, thresholds and notifications; no fee for basic use. If a management system for the centre is present, the gateway can also send the data to that system (MQTT or HTTP): the configuration is included.

Is an electrician needed and what happens without internet?

An electrician is not needed: all the sensors are battery-powered and the gateway plugs into a socket with its power adapter. Without internet the sensors keep measuring and the level sensor stores the readings; the notifications for doors, movement and SOS, however, do not go out until the line comes back. If the line of the centre is not very reliable, the 4G version is preferable.

What is not included
  • Doors, stalls, water tank and plumbing: they are the ones in your stable
  • The cantilever bracket above the water tank and the protection for the buttons outdoors
  • The data SIM, in the versions with 4G
  • In the "devices only" version: clamps, electrical spur, spare batteries, network cable and small parts
