Configurable battery protection kit
Everything on the DC side between batteries and inverter, already sized
Victron Lynx Distributor busbar · MEGA fuses · power cables · lugs
This kit is protection and wiring only: the inverter and the batteries are not included. Pick the inverter size and how many 48V batteries go in parallel, and the right material arrives: a fused distribution busbar, fuses of the correct rating, power cables in the cross-section the inverter requires, and lugs.
It suits any 48V low-voltage system — Deye, Pylontech, Dyness, V-TAC, BYD, Felicity, rack or tower batteries — as long as they sit in parallel on the same 48V bus.
How it is built
The heart of it is the Victron Lynx Distributor, the distribution busbar of the Lynx system, with four fuse positions and a status LED on each one: a blown fuse is visible at a glance. The modules bolt to each other into one continuous bar, so when more positions than four are needed another one goes alongside.
The fuses are Victron MEGA 80V: ceramic, M8 connection, 50.8mm centres, 20Nm tightening torque, and they mount straight into the Lynx Distributor positions. The power cables are 1m long, with the lugs already fitted.
Why it matters: every hybrid inverter manual calls for over-current protection or a disconnect between battery and inverter. With two or more batteries, paralleling straight onto the terminals leaves each branch unprotected and the cable runs unequal, so the current shares out badly. A fused busbar fixes both, and the LED shows an open fuse at a glance.
What the kit contains
Every configuration arrives complete and already sized: pick the inverter size above and how many 48V batteries you put in parallel, and the kit we ship carries all of the DC-side material.
- the fused distribution busbar of the Victron Lynx system, in the number of modules the configuration calls for
- the MEGA 80V fuses of the correct rating, on the battery side and on the inverter side
- the power cables in the cross-section the inverter manual prescribes for that current
- the lugs already matched to the cables
With a single battery on a single-input inverter no busbar is needed: the kit comes down to in-line protection, and it is the cheapest configuration.
The piece count and the ratings change from one configuration to the next: we do the sizing. If you want the full bill of materials before ordering, send us the inverter model and the battery model and we will mail it to you.
Picking the right size
Count the inverter's battery inputs, not just the kW: inverters up to roughly 12kW have one positive and one negative, while 14kW and above almost always have two and are wired with two cable pairs. The cross-sections below are the ones the manuals call for at that current.
↔ scroll the table sideways
| Inverter size | Typical battery current | Battery inputs | Cable cross-section |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5-6kW | up to 135A | 1 | 50mm² |
| 8kW | about 190A | 1 | 70mm² |
| 10kW | about 210A | 1 | 70mm² |
| 12kW | about 240A | 1 | 95mm² |
| 14-16kW | 260A to 300A | 2 | 2×50mm² |
| 18-20kW | 330A to 350A | 2 | 2×70mm² |
Two things to know: the cables from each battery to the busbar almost always ship with the battery itself, so they are not included; if you need them, just say so and we add them. This kit covers the DC side — the array combiner, the AC board and the earthing remain part of the wider design.
