Several sizes. The figures, diagram and table on this page describe the «Up to 2 sheds» size. The other sizes are selected at the top and are listed further down, under «Available sizes».
2 gas detectorsAmmonia from 0 to 10 ppm and hydrogen sulphide from 0 to 5 ppm, with temperature and humidity.
CO2From 400 to 5,000 ppm: it tells you whether the air exchange is sufficient, especially in winter with the building closed.
4 temperature and humidity pointsThe two values from which the THI is derived, zone by zone.
8 controlled loadsExtractor fans, alley fans and misting, on threshold, on schedule or manually.

What it does

  • Two detectors measure ammonia and hydrogen sulphide in the housing areas, together with temperature and humidity, and send a reading every 10 minutes to the gateway connected to the company network.
  • The CO2 sensor measures the concentration from 400 to 5,000 ppm: it is the most direct indicator of air exchange when the building is closed.
  • Four temperature and humidity sensors, distributed along the shed, show the hot spots and provide the two values with which the THI for heat stress is calculated.
  • The 8-output controller operates extractor fans, alley fans and misting when the set thresholds are exceeded, on schedule or manually from the app.
  • When the gas, temperature or humidity thresholds are exceeded a notification arrives on your smartphone.
  • History and charts can be viewed from a smartphone and from a PC, also useful as documentation for animal welfare.

Barn and livestock housing environment kit Litio Store: installation diagram in the barn
1LoRaWAN gateway in the technical room or at the head of the shed, connected to the company network: collects the data of all the buildings and sends it to the cloud.
2Ammonia and hydrogen sulphide detector, on the wall at 2.0-2.5 m, in a sheltered position. Two in the kit.
3CO2, temperature, humidity and pressure sensor, low down and out of reach of the animals.
4Temperature and humidity sensor, IP67. Four in the kit, distributed along the shed.
5Controller with 8 relay outputs in the electrical panel: operates extractor fans, fans and misting.

How it is installed

Gateway. On the wall or on a pole in the technical room, in the milk room or at the head of the shed, high up and away from metal masses. Powered by the supplied power supply unit or via PoE, network connection with Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi. IP65 protection, operation from -40 to +70 °C. Two nearby sheds are covered by a single gateway.
Ammonia and hydrogen sulphide detectors. On the wall or on a pillar in the housing area, 2.0-2.5 m above the ground, with the bracket and screws supplied. Away from doors, windows and fans. The housing is IP30: choose a spot sheltered from dust, water jets and condensation. After switch-on the gas sensors need about 30 minutes before providing valid readings.
CO2, temperature and humidity. CO2 sensor in the middle of the building: the manufacturer indicates mounting it low down, 30-45 cm above the floor, because CO2 tends to stratify; in the barn it must be placed out of reach of the animals, for example on the side of the feed alley or behind a guard. Temperature and humidity sensors screwed or fixed with a cable tie to pillars and uprights, sheltered from direct sun and from the misting jet.
Relay controller. On a DIN rail in the ventilation panel, powered at 230V. The 8 outputs are dry contacts: each carries 10A on a resistive load and 5A on motors, 16A in total. Extractor fans and fans must be operated through a contactor, in parallel with the existing manual controls.
Configuration. Via NFC with a smartphone and the manufacturer's free app: reading intervals, thresholds, names of the zones and of the loads. The gateway is configured from a browser. No cables and no paid software needed.
Documentation included. Written installation guide with heights, positions, wiring diagram of the relay outputs and switch-on sequence, and initial threshold configuration based on the species farmed and the type of ventilation specified when ordering.

Available sizes

The size is selected at the top, together with version and connectivity. The diagram, the photo and the table above show the «Up to 2 sheds» size; with the other sizes only the quantities of the devices listed below change, the rest of the kit is identical.

  • Up to 2 sheds: 2 ammonia and hydrogen sulphide detectors, 4 temperature and humidity sensors
  • 3 sheds: 3 ammonia and hydrogen sulphide detectors, 6 temperature and humidity sensors
  • 4 sheds: 4 ammonia and hydrogen sulphide detectors, 8 temperature and humidity sensors

In the complete kit the installation material related to these devices (brackets, boxes, clips, cables, enclosures) follows the chosen size. For a different size, write to us from the contacts section.

Available connectivity options

  • Customer network (Ethernet/Wi-Fi): 1 semi-industrial LoRaWAN gateway

Before ordering

Is an internet connection needed in the barn?

It is needed at the point where the gateway is installed: a network socket or the company Wi-Fi coverage, usually in the office, in the milk room or in the technical room. The sensors do not use Wi-Fi, they talk to the gateway by radio. If there is no fixed line on the farm, the version with a 4G gateway is available, which requires a data SIM (not included, any operator, traffic below 1 GB per month). It is selected when ordering.

Does one gateway cover more than one shed?

Yes. In open field the sensors reach the gateway at a few kilometres; between sheds with metal structures and sheet metal the range is reduced, but two or three buildings of the same farm centre are covered with a single gateway in a high and central position. For distant farm buildings or sites with several centres the version with an outdoor gateway on a pole is available, with extended coverage. One gateway handles hundreds of devices.

Are the ammonia detectors suitable for the barn environment?

They measure ammonia from 0 to 10 ppm and hydrogen sulphide from 0 to 5 ppm: they serve to see when the concentration rises above the usual level and to start the ventilation, not to measure high concentrations, which exceed the full scale. The housing is IP30 and the manufacturer asks to avoid dust, water and high humidity: they must be mounted in a sheltered spot, never above the bedding or within range of washing. The measuring cell has a life of about 3 years, after which the detector is replaced.

Which loads can I control?

Anything that is operated by a contact: extractor fans, alley fans, misting and shower solenoid valves, window motors. The 8 outputs are relay contacts rated 10A resistive and 5A inductive; for motors a contactor is used. Fans, motors, power contactors and existing panels are not included: the kit controls the system you already have. On farms with forced ventilation the kit works alongside the control unit and the minimum-ventilation alarms, it does not replace them.

I have more than two sheds, or I farm pigs or poultry

The kit is configured on the farm: for each additional shed a gas detector and two temperature and humidity sensors are added, gateway and platform remain the same. Among the product options you will find the 3 and 4 shed sizes. For pig houses and poultry sheds, where ammonia often exceeds 10 ppm, write to us from the contacts section stating the species, the number of buildings, the type of ventilation and the loads to be controlled: we will send you the composition and the quotation of the adapted kit.

Battery life

The CO2 sensor and the temperature and humidity sensors have a replaceable lithium battery, with a declared life of up to 10 years with one reading every 10 minutes at 25 °C. The gas detectors have four replaceable lithium batteries and last about 3 years under the same conditions. Shorter intervals reduce the life. The charge level is visible in the app.

Where is the data viewed and are there any fees?

On the manufacturer's app and portal, from smartphone and PC, with charts, thresholds and notifications; no fee for basic use. If herd management software or a farm management system is in place, the gateway can also send the data to that system (MQTT or HTTP): the configuration is included.

What happens if the internet goes down?

The sensors keep measuring; the CO2 sensor stores the readings in memory and the gateway resumes sending when the line is restored. The control rules can be loaded onto the gateway, which carries them out even without a connection to the cloud. The loads can always be operated from the manual controls of your panel.

Is an electrician necessary?

Not for the sensors: they are battery powered and are fixed with screws, cable ties or double-sided tape. The relay controller works at 230V and must be connected in the panel by an electrician, together with the contactors of the loads.

What is not included
  • Extractor fans, fans, motors and misting solenoid valves: they are those of your farm
  • The data SIM, in the version with a 4G gateway
  • The electrical connection of the controller in the panel
  • In the "devices only" version: enclosure, contactors, cables and small parts
