Who it is forStandard flats of 70-90 m² with 503 boxes and mixed wiring.
What you monitorTen lighting points: two with a smart faceplate, eight with a module behind the existing switch.
How you control itThe existing switches, the eWeLink app, Alexa, Google and schedules.
InstallationBy an electrician: 503 faceplates, modules with and without neutral.

What it does

  • The two mechanical-button ZBM5 switches replace the existing inserts where they show most, such as the hallway and the living room.
  • The four ZBMINIR2 modules go behind the existing inserts where the box has a neutral: the faceplate stays exactly as it was.
  • The four no-neutral ZBMINIL2 modules solve the boxes where only the live and the lamp return arrive, which is common in Italian installations.
  • Every light is controlled from the existing switches, from the eWeLink app even when you are out, and by voice.
  • The ZBM5 and ZBMINIR2, wired with a neutral, strengthen the Zigbee network right across the flat.
  • Scenes and schedules switch everything off with one command or at a set time.
Larger flat, more points without a neutral, or roller shutters to add? Get in touch through the contact page with a floor plan and a list of the lighting points and we will put together the right mix.
Typical Italian home kit: 503 + modules behind the existing switches: installation diagram
1Sonoff ZB Bridge Pro hub near the router or in a central position: it runs all the Zigbee devices.
2Sonoff ZBM5 switch with a mechanical key, type 120 for a 503 box, by the front door and in the living room. Two in the kit.
3Sonoff ZBMINIR2 module with a neutral, behind the existing switch insert in the kitchen, the bedrooms or the bathroom. Four in the kit.
4Sonoff ZBMINIL2 module without a neutral, behind the switch insert where only the line and the lamp return are present. Four in the kit.

How it is installed

ZB Bridge Pro hub. Put the ZB Bridge Pro somewhere central in the house, out in the open on a shelf, not shut inside a metal cabinet. It is USB powered from a 5V supply and joins the home's 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. It runs the Zigbee network and the scenes; devices powered at 230V strengthen the network.
Plates and modules. First of all, map the back boxes with your electrician: where there is a neutral, use the ZBM5 or the ZBMINIR2; where there is not, use the ZBMINIL2. The ZBM5 replaces the switch insert; the modules wire to the existing insert and to the lamp return as the manufacturer's diagram shows. The 230V connections must be made by qualified personnel, with the supply isolated.
Connectors, back boxes and bypass. The Sonoff quick connectors in the kit are for wiring the modules inside the boxes. The deep 503 back boxes and the junction box are optional, for when a module will not fit behind the switch insert. The Shelly Bypass units are optional: they are fitted at the lamp driven by a no-neutral module, and only if the low-power LED light flickers or stays dimly lit.
eWeLink app. Switch the supply back on, download the eWeLink app, add the ZB Bridge Pro and then, from the bridge menu, the devices one at a time, starting with those nearest the bridge. Name each one after the room and the light. Then link the eWeLink account to Alexa or Google Home.
Recommended automations. Set up an "out" scene that switches off all the lights in the flat with one command, and a "night" one that leaves just a courtesy light on. Schedule the hallway lights to switch off at a set time. Add a Zigbee motion sensor later and the bathroom can light up by itself.
Contents verified. The ZBM5, ZBMINIR2 and ZBMINIL2 are Sonoff Zigbee devices run from the ZB Bridge Pro in the same eWeLink app. The kit includes the Sonoff quick connectors for the modules' connections. Optional: deep 503 boxes and a junction box if a module will not fit behind the switch insert, and four Shelly Bypass units, only for low-power LED loads on the no-neutral modules.

Before you order

Do you need a hub?

Yes, and it is included: the Sonoff ZB Bridge Pro links the Zigbee devices and joins the house Wi-Fi. Without the bridge the Zigbee devices cannot be used with the eWeLink app. A 5V USB power supply is needed, an old phone charger will do.

Does it work with Alexa and Google?

Yes, through the eWeLink app: you link the eWeLink account in the Alexa app or in Google Home and the lights show up among the devices, to switch on and off by voice or to put in routines. The scenes you build in eWeLink stay available with no assistant at all.

Do you need an electrician?

Yes. The faceplates and the modules go in the 503 boxes and the junction boxes, with a check for a neutral in each box. 230V connections must be made by qualified personnel, with the installation isolated. Setting things up in the app, though, you can do yourself on your phone.

What is the difference between modules with and without a neutral?

The ZBMINIR2 needs a neutral in the box and also acts as a Zigbee repeater. The ZBMINIL2 works where only the line and the lamp return are present, common in older Italian installations. With some low-power LED lamps a bypass may be needed, included as an option.

What happens if there is no internet?

The existing switches and the ZBM5 buttons carry on controlling the lights. According to the manufacturer, some Zigbee scenes can run locally on the bridge; the app from outside the house and the voice assistants come back with the connection.

Can I add more devices?

Yes. The ZB Bridge Pro handles plenty of Sonoff Zigbee devices: more modules, roller-shutter modules, motion, opening and temperature sensors. Get in touch through the contact page for a build we have checked.

Are batteries included?

Not needed: switches and modules are powered from the 230V circuit and the bridge over USB. The kit contains no remotes or battery sensors; if you add a wireless button or a sensor later, the batteries follow the manufacturer's specifications.

What if a product is out of stock on Amazon?

It happens, above all with some variants. Get in touch through the contact page quoting the kit code and the item that is missing: we will point you to an alternative that works with the other parts, so you keep a combination we have checked and you do not have to hunt for a substitute that fits the rest.

Why buy on Amazon?

We put the kit together and checked it ourselves, choosing parts that work with each other. Purchase, payment, returns and warranty are handled by Amazon, item by item: delivery times, returns and warranty are shown on Amazon when you buy, under each product seller's own terms.
