Milesight devices Anonymous detection Data via MQTT or HTTP Battery-powered rooms and restrooms
Customisable kits. This is one of the Milesight LoRaWAN kits in the Smart Home section. For different installations, custom kits or bespoke automations, write to us from the contacts section.
Several sizes. The figures, the diagram and the table on this page describe the «About 40 desks, 6 rooms, 4 restrooms» size. The other sizes are selected at the top and are listed further down, under «Available sizes».
4 open-space zonesCeiling sensor with people counting and up to 16 areas that can be drawn over desks or clusters.
6 meeting roomsRadar presence sensor: it also detects people who are seated and still.
4 restroomsFree/occupied status of every cubicle, without cameras.
2 entrancesCounting of passages in and out, an indicative footfall figure.

What it does

  • The ceiling sensors over the open-space zones count the people present and show which desks or clusters are occupied: each sensor handles up to 16 areas drawn on the floor plan. Processing takes place on board and only numbers leave the device.
  • In every meeting room a wall-mounted radar sensor detects the presence of people even when they are seated and still, up to about 4.8 m; up to 7.5 m for people who are moving. The data tells you whether the booked room is actually being used.
  • The presence status is available via MQTT or HTTP: your booking system can use it to release rooms that are booked but not occupied.
  • In the restrooms one sensor per cubicle reports free or occupied: the status can be shown on a monitor or in the app, and the occupancy history helps you schedule cleaning.
  • The people counters at the entrances record passages in both directions, with accuracy up to 80%: this is footfall data by time slot and by day, not access control.
  • History, charts by zone and by time slot and notifications can be consulted from a smartphone and from a PC: occupancy rates for pricing, shifts and reorganising your spaces.
For a different number of desks, rooms or restrooms, for several floors or several sites, if there is no network socket on site and a 4G gateway is needed, for open spaces with very high ceilings: tell us the characteristics of your spaces from the contacts section and we will propose the right configuration together with the quotation.
Litio Store coworking space occupancy kit: installation diagram in a coworking space
1Compact indoor LoRaWAN gateway, connected to the office network: it collects the data from all the sensors and sends it to the cloud or to your system.
2Ceiling occupancy sensor above the desks, powered at 5 V. Four in the kit, one per zone.
3Wall-mounted radar presence sensor in the meeting rooms, high up and tilted towards the table. Six in the kit.
4Occupancy sensor for each restroom cubicle, on the ceiling above the toilet. Four in the kit.
5Ceiling passage people counter above the entrance doorway. Two in the kit.

How it is installed

Gateway. Compact indoor gateway, on a cabinet, on the wall or on the ceiling, centrally positioned with respect to the floor and away from metal cabinets. Connection by Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi, USB-C 5 V power supply. IP30 protection, operation from -20 to +50 °C. For several floors or thick walls, the variant with a longer-range gateway is available.
Sensors over the desks. On the ceiling, facing straight down, with 4 anchors on a flat ceiling at least 30 mm thick. Recommended height 2.5-3 m (2.3 to 4 m allowed): the detected area is about 9.6 × 3.6 m at 2.5 m and 12.3 × 5 m at 3 m. USB-C 5 V power supply with the included adapter: a socket is needed in the false ceiling or within cable reach. Away from mirrors and direct sunlight; at least 20 lux are needed in the room.
Sensors in the meeting rooms. Wall mounting only, 2.5-3 m above the floor, tilted by 60° in small rooms and by 75° in medium ones, with the logo facing up; ceiling mounting is not supported. The magnetic bracket is adhesive: the wall must be dry, smooth and clean, with full hold after 24 hours. Keep curtains, fans and plants out of the field of view; pay attention to glazed walls facing circulation corridors. Operation from 0 to 30 °C.
Restrooms and entrances. Restroom sensor on the ceiling, at 2.5-3 m, with its centre 10-20 cm from the centre of the toilet and facing the front of the bowl; away from water splashes. Test mode is used to check that the door leaf does not trigger it. People counter on the ceiling above the doorway, at 2-3 m: at 3 m it covers a passage up to 3.1 m wide. At least 45 cm from the walls, not right next to the door leaf, away from air vents and not facing glazed surfaces.
Configuration. Room, restroom and entrance sensors via NFC with a smartphone and the manufacturer's free app. The ceiling sensors over the desks have no NFC: they are configured from a browser by connecting to the device's Wi-Fi, and that is where the areas are drawn. The gateway is also configured from a browser.
Documentation included. Written installation guide with heights, tilt angles, areas detected at the various heights and power-up sequence, plus initial configuration with the names of zones, rooms and restrooms given at the time of the order.

Available sizes

The size is selected at the top, together with the version and the connectivity. The diagram, the photo and the table above show the «About 40 desks, 6 rooms, 4 restrooms» size; with the other sizes only the quantities of the devices listed below change, the rest of the kit is identical.

  • About 20 desks, 3 rooms, 2 restrooms: 2 desk occupancy sensors, 3 radar presence sensors, 2 restroom occupancy sensors
  • About 40 desks, 6 rooms, 4 restrooms: 4 desk occupancy sensors, 6 radar presence sensors, 4 restroom occupancy sensors
  • About 60 desks, 9 rooms, 6 restrooms: 6 desk occupancy sensors, 9 radar presence sensors, 6 restroom occupancy sensors

In the complete kit the installation material related to these devices (brackets, boxes, clips, cables, enclosures) follows the size chosen. For a different size, write to us from the contacts section.

Available connectivity options

  • Customer network (Ethernet/Wi-Fi): 1 compact indoor LoRaWAN gateway

Before you order

Are people filmed?

No. The ceiling sensor over the desks processes everything on board: the manufacturer states that no image is collected and that detection is anonymous, with GDPR certification; during commissioning the view can be blurred and up to 8 areas can be masked. Rooms, restrooms and entrances use radar, infrared and distance measurement: they have no camera. Only counts and occupied/free states leave the system.

Is the office network needed?

It is needed at the point where the gateway is installed: a network socket or Wi-Fi. The sensors do not join your network, they talk to the gateway over radio. If you cannot connect equipment to the company network, the version with a 4G gateway is available, which requires a data SIM (not included, any operator, traffic below 1 GB per month). It is selected at the time of the order.

Does one gateway cover the whole floor?

On an office floor with lightweight partitions, yes, with the gateway centrally positioned. Range inside a building depends on walls and floor slabs: for several floors, thick reinforced concrete walls or several building blocks, choose the «large building» variant, with a longer-range gateway that can also be powered over PoE. One gateway handles hundreds of devices.

Does it integrate with our booking system?

The gateway sends the data via MQTT or HTTP: the configuration of this transmission is included. The rule that releases a booked and empty room is set in your booking system, if it accepts external data: check this with your supplier. The booking software is not included.

How many desks does one ceiling sensor cover?

It depends on the height: at 2.5 m the detected area is about 9.6 × 3.6 m, at 3 m about 12.3 × 5 m. Within the area up to 16 zones can be drawn, one per desk or per cluster. With 4 sensors about 40 desks are normally covered; with widely spaced desks or low ceilings more are needed.

I have more desks, more rooms or more floors

The kit is configured around your spaces: sensors are added per zone, per room and per cubicle, while the gateway and the platform stay the same. Among the product options you will find the sizes for about 20 and 60 desks; for different situations write to us from the contacts section with a floor plan or with the number of desks, rooms, restrooms and entrances: we will send you the composition and the quotation for the adapted kit.

What happens if the internet goes down?

The sensors keep on detecting. The people counters at the entrances keep the latest counts in memory; for desks, rooms and restrooms the status is up to date again as soon as the line comes back. During the outage the app and the booking system receive no data.

Battery life

The manufacturer states from 5 to more than 6 years for the room sensors, from 3 to 4 years for the restroom ones with about 90 uses per day, about 4 years for the people counters with 1,000 passages per day. The batteries are lithium and can be replaced. The sensors over the desks have no battery. The charge level is visible in the app.

Where is the data consulted and are there any fees?

On the manufacturer's app and portal, from a smartphone and a PC, with charts, thresholds and notifications; no fee for basic use. Where a booking system, a space management software or an ERP is in place, the gateway can also send the data to that system (MQTT or HTTP): the configuration is included.

Is an electrician required?

Only if the sockets for the ceiling sensors over the desks are missing: each one needs a socket for its 5 V adapter, usually in the false ceiling. All the other sensors are battery-powered and are fixed with anchors, double-sided tape or an adhesive bracket.

What is not included
  • The booking software and the screens to show the status of rooms and restrooms
  • The power sockets in the false ceiling for the sensors over the desks
  • The data SIM, in the version with a 4G gateway
  • In the "devices only" version: Ethernet cable, USB-C power adapter for the gateway, brackets and small parts
