Several sizes. The figures, diagram and table on this page describe the «2 silos and 1 store» size. The other sizes are selected at the top and are listed further down, under «Available sizes».
2 silosDistance to the grain surface from 0.3 to 12 m with a radar sensor, without contact.
3 PT100 probesOne on the dryer hot air, two in the grain bulk: range from -50 to +200 °C.
CO2 in the storeFrom 400 to 5,000 ppm: rising CO2 is an early indicator of heating and infestation.
Store climateAir temperature and humidity at two points, to decide on ventilation and grain handling.

What it does

  • Two radar sensors on the roof of the silos measure the distance to the grain surface; the reading is not affected by dust, condensation or temperature.
  • A PT100 probe on the hot-air duct follows the drying temperature and warns you if it leaves the range you set.
  • Two PT100 probes inserted in the grain bulk signal the onset of heating at the point where they are placed.
  • The CO2 sensor in the flat store measures the concentration close to the grain pile: a steady rise, with the store closed, indicates insect or mould activity before the temperature rises.
  • Two air temperature and humidity sensors help you choose when to ventilate and see the risk of condensation.
  • Thresholds and trends generate notifications on your smartphone; history and charts by silo, batch and season can also be consulted from a PC.
For a different number of silos, more temperature points in the grain bulk, more stores, if the storage centre has no internet connection and a 4G gateway is needed, or for large yards that require an outdoor gateway: tell us the features of your installation from the contact section and we will propose the right configuration together with the quotation.
Litio Store grain dryer and grain store kit: installation diagram in the storage centre
1Wall-mounted LoRaWAN gateway in the office or in the switchboard room, connected to the company network: it collects the data from silos, dryer and store.
2Radar level sensor on the roof of each silo, vertically above the grain surface. Two in the kit.
3Temperature sensor with PT100 probe: one on the hot-air duct, two with the probe in the grain bulk. Three in the kit.
4CO2, temperature and humidity sensor in the flat store, low down close to the grain pile.
5Wall-mounted air temperature and humidity sensor in the store. Two in the kit.

How it is installed

Gateway. On a wall or on a pole, high up, in the office, at the weighbridge or in the switchboard room, away from metal masses and out of dusty areas. Powered by the supplied power adapter or via PoE, network connection with an Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi. IP65 protection, operation from -40 to +70 °C. Sheet-metal silos and sheds shield the radio: the gateway must go where it sees both the silos and the store.
Radar sensors on the silos. On the silo roof, on an existing threaded opening (G 1½" and G 2½" connections) or through a hole with a sealed bulkhead fitting. The sensor must look at the grain vertically: beyond 15° of tilt the measurement is suspended, so on conical roofs the bracket must compensate for the slope. More than 20 cm from the wall, out of the filling path and with no obstacles in the beam, which is 8° wide. Range from 0.3 to 12 m, IP68, from -40 to +70 °C.
PT100 probes. Stainless steel probe, 4 mm in diameter, with a 1.5 m cable. On the hot-air duct it goes into a half-inch thermowell; the transmitter body is fixed to a wall or a pole away from the duct, because it works from -30 to +70 °C. In the grain bulk the probe is inserted into the pile or through a hatch, as far as the cable reaches: it measures that point, not the core of the silo.
CO2 and store climate. CO2 sensor on a wall or on a pole, low down: the manufacturer indicates 30-45 cm from the floor, because CO2 is heavier than air. It goes close to the grain pile but protected from the passage of the loader, away from the doors. Temperature and humidity sensors on the wall with screws or a cable tie, at two opposite points, away from doors and fans. CO2 IP65, the others IP67.
Configuration. Via NFC with a smartphone and the free app from the manufacturer: silo height, measurement and transmission intervals, thresholds, names of silos and batches. The gateway is configured from a browser. No PC and no cables are needed.
Documentation included. Written installation guide with positions, distances, mounting of the radars on the silo roofs and power-up sequence, plus the initial configuration of heights and thresholds based on the silos and the grain specified when ordering.

Available sizes

The size is selected at the top, together with version and connectivity. The diagram, the photo and the table above show the «2 silos and 1 store» size; with the other sizes only the quantities of the devices listed below change, the rest of the kit is identical.

  • 2 silos and 1 store: 2 radar level sensors
  • 4 silos and 1 store: 4 radar level sensors
  • 6 silos and 1 store: 6 radar level sensors

In the complete kit the installation material linked to these devices (brackets, thermowells, clips, cables, boxes) follows the size chosen. For a different size, write to us from the contact section.

Available connectivity

  • Customer network (Ethernet/Wi-Fi): 1 semi-industrial LoRaWAN gateway
  • Built-in 4G: 1 semi-industrial LoRaWAN gateway with 4G. SIM not included

Before you order

Is an internet connection needed at the storage centre?

It is needed at the point where the gateway is installed: a network socket or Wi-Fi coverage, usually in the office or at the weighbridge. The sensors do not use Wi-Fi, they talk to the gateway by radio. If there is no line, the version with a 4G gateway is available, which requires a data SIM (not included, any operator, traffic below 1 GB per month). It is chosen when ordering.

Does the signal get through from the silo roofs and from the store?

The radars on the silo roofs are outdoors and high up, the best position for radio. For the basic gateway the manufacturer states up to 2 km in built-up areas; sheet metal and reinforced concrete reduce the range. For large yards, several silo batteries or distant stores, choose the version with an outdoor gateway, to be mounted on a pole in a commanding position: up to 15 km in open field.

Does the radar measure grain well?

It measures the distance to the first surface it meets and is not affected by dust, condensation or temperature. The manufacturer documents it for liquids and tanks; with grain the surface forms a cone while filling and a funnel while emptying, so the figure is a good indication of the fill level, not a weighing. Conversion into tonnes depends on the silo geometry and on the specific weight of the grain.

Are the probes enough to monitor the temperature of the grain bulk?

They monitor two points. The probe is 3 cm long and has a 1.5 m cable: it reaches the outer layer of the pile or the area near a hatch, not the centre of a tall silo. Grain is a poor conductor of heat and a hot spot far from the probe cannot be seen: this is why the kit adds CO2, which spreads through the air of the store. For silos that already have temperature cables installed, write to us from the contact section.

Can it be installed in areas classified as explosion-risk zones?

No. Grain dust can form explosive atmospheres and no device in the kit is ATEX certified. Each sensor may only be mounted where the zone classification document of the plant allows non-certified equipment: the position of radars and probes must be decided with the safety manager before ordering.

I have more silos or more stores

The kit is configured on the installation: every extra silo requires a radar sensor, every store a CO2 sensor and the climate sensors; gateway and platform stay the same. Among the product options you will find the 4-silo size. For different situations, write to us from the contact section stating the number and height of the silos, the stores and the distances: we will send you the composition and the quotation of the adapted kit.

Battery life

Radar sensors: about 7 years with one measurement every 15 minutes and one transmission a day, at 25 °C; more frequent transmissions shorten the life. PT100 probes and CO2 sensor: up to 10 years with one reading every 10 minutes. Temperature and humidity sensors: over 10 years in good radio conditions. All batteries are lithium and replaceable; the charge level is visible in the app.

Where is the data consulted and are there any fees?

On the app and on the portal of the manufacturer, from smartphone and PC, with charts, thresholds and notifications; no fee for basic use. If a warehouse management system or the control system of the dryer is present, the gateway can also send the data to that system (MQTT or HTTP): the configuration is included.

What happens if the internet goes down?

The sensors are battery-powered and keep measuring. The PT100 probes and the CO2 sensor store the readings in memory and retransmit them when the connection comes back. Notifications on the smartphone resume when the line is restored. The kit measures and warns: it does not control the burner, the fans or the augers.

Is an electrician needed?

No: the sensors are battery-powered and the gateway is supplied by its own power adapter or by the network cable. The work is mechanical: the hole or the connection on the silo roof, with work at height, and the half-inch socket on the hot-air duct for the probe thermowell.

What is not included
  • Silos, dryer, fans and plant: these are the ones at your centre
  • Drilling the silo roof, the work at height and the socket on the hot-air duct
  • The lance to take the probe deep into the pile
  • The data SIM, in the versions with 4G
  • In the "devices only" version: bulkhead fittings, thermowell, clamps, network cable and small parts
