Aqara safe nights kit for elderly parents

What it does
- The FP1E presence sensor, in the bedroom, detects presence even when someone is still: it knows whether the person is in bed or has got up.
- When the person gets up at night, the T2 bulb in the bedside lamp or the ceiling fitting comes on dim and warm, without dazzling.
- The P2 motion and light sensor in the hallway picks up movement towards the bathroom and can switch on a second light or log the event.
- The T1 mini button by the bed sends the family a notification at one press.
- In the Aqara Home app the family can see what happened during the night and get alerts, for example if the person does not come back to bed within a set time.

How it is installed
M100 hub and network. The M100 hub plugs into one of the USB power supplies included, in a central socket between the bedroom and the hallway. It is set up with the Aqara Home app, connected to the home Wi-Fi, and the firmware is updated. It is best if the account is held by a family member, with the older person as a shared user.
Presence sensor and bulb. The FP1E sensor runs off the second USB power supply and faces the bed, on the wall or on the bedside table, within the detection area the manufacturer gives. The T2 bulb screws into the lamp or the ceiling fitting; the lamp switch has to stay on, otherwise it receives no commands.
Sensor in the hallway and a button. The P2 sensor fixes in the hallway with the double-sided tape or its base, at about 2 m, facing the route between bedroom and bathroom. The T1 mini button sticks to the bedside table or to the wall by the bed, within reach from lying down. The USB power supplies included are for the hub and the presence sensor.
App and pairing. The presence sensor, the bulb, the motion sensor and the button are paired with the hub one at a time and assigned to rooms. In the FP1E you draw the detection zones so that the bed is kept apart from the rest of the bedroom, within what the app allows. Invite the family into the Aqara Home household.
Recommended automations. The most useful: at night, when the person gets up, the bulb on at 20% in warm white and off once they are back in bed; a notification to the family when the button is pressed; an alert if in the middle of the night the room stays empty for more than half an hour. They are set up in Aqara Home and stay on the hub.
Contents verified. The FP1E presence sensor, the T2 bulb, the P2 sensor and the T1 mini button are Aqara devices and pair with the M100 hub. A pack of 5V USB power supplies is included, because the M100 hub and the FP1E sensor are USB-powered and come with no power supply of their own.

Before you order
Do you need a hub?
Yes, and it is included: the M100 hub coordinates every device and puts them on the house network. It plugs into a USB power supply, also included, and has to stay on at all times.
Does it work with Apple Home, Alexa and Google?
The main app is Aqara Home. The M100 hub works as a Matter bridge and brings the devices into Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa and the other Matter-compatible ecosystems; Aqara also has an Alexa skill. Some advanced functions, such as the sensor settings, are only available in the Aqara Home app.
Do you need an electrician?
No: the bulb screws into the E27 lampholder, hub and presence sensor run off the USB power supplies and the other devices are battery-powered. You install all of it yourself, with no tools.
Is it a telecare system?
No: it is a help at night and a way of keeping the family informed, not an emergency service. The notifications only reach the phone with a working internet connection and do not replace a telecare device linked to a control room. Medical risk calls for a dedicated service.
What happens if there is no internet?
The automatic light keeps working, because the automations are stored on the hub and run on the local network. What does not arrive is the notifications to the family, and those resume once the connection is back.
Can I add devices?
Yes: more Aqara sensors, lights and buttons can be added to the M100 hub, a sensor on the front door, a leak detector in the bathroom or a second presence sensor in the living room, for example. Get in touch through the contact page for the right configuration.
Are batteries included?
The P2 motion sensor and the T1 mini button run on batteries, normally already in the box according to the manufacturer. The FP1E presence sensor and the hub are powered over USB, the bulb from the mains.
What if a product is out of stock on Amazon?
