Sonoff ventilated home gym kit: CO2 and two Wi-Fi sockets

In a home gym or a basement room a Sonoff AirGuard monitor measures CO2 and two Sonoff Wi-Fi sockets switch a fan and a dehumidifier. When the air turns heavy during a workout the fan starts on its own, and the dehumidifier dries the room out at the end of the session. It all runs in the eWeLink app.

What it does

  • The Sonoff AirGuard monitor measures CO2: it climbs fast during a workout, especially in small or basement rooms.
  • The first S60TPF socket switches on the plug-in fan or extractor when CO2 goes above the threshold.
  • The second socket runs the dehumidifier, on a schedule after training or by hand from the app.
  • The sockets meter the consumption of whatever is plugged into them.
  • The eWeLink app shows how CO2 moves through the session and tells you whether the ventilation is enough.
A bigger room, a fixed wall extractor or a humidity sensor to drive the dehumidifier? Get in touch through the contact page and we will tell you the right mix.

How it is installed

Wi-Fi network. Monitor and socket join the home 2.4GHz Wi-Fi through the eWeLink app, with no hub. In basement rooms and cellars the signal is often weak: check it with your phone and add a repeater if need be. The monitor is powered as the manufacturer states, so a socket nearby is worth having.
CO2 monitor. The monitor goes on a shelf or on a unit at mid height, in the area where you train but not touching the equipment and not in front of the fan or the window, which would give readings that are too low. Keep it away from anyone breathing hard during exercise.
Sockets and appliances. The two S60TPF sockets go into the wall outlets, one for the fan and one for the dehumidifier. The appliances must restart on their own when the power comes back, with a mechanical switch or state memory: with touch keys alone the socket will not switch them on. No multi-way adapters with the dehumidifier.
App and pairing. In the eWeLink app you add the monitor and the sockets, with clear names such as “gym fan” and “dehumidifier”. You check the CO2 reading and test every socket from the app, making sure the appliance really does start. It is worth running the test with the room shut for a few minutes, so you can watch the CO2 climb and the scene fire.
Recommended automations. Fan on when CO2 goes above about 1,000ppm and off when it drops. Dehumidifier on for an hour after training, or on a schedule on training days. A notification if CO2 stays high for a long stretch, a sign the room needs airing by opening a door or a window.
Contents verified. The AirGuard monitor and the two S60TPF sockets are Sonoff Wi-Fi units and run in the same eWeLink app, where the CO2 reading drives the sockets through scenes. The kit needs no accessories: everything either stands in place or plugs into a socket.

Before you order

Do you need a hub?

No. The monitor and the plugs connect straight to the home Wi-Fi and are managed from the eWeLink app. All you need is for the Wi-Fi to reach the room, which is worth checking in basement rooms and cellars.

Does it work with any fan or dehumidifier?

It works with appliances that switch themselves on as soon as they get power, for example those with a mechanical switch or last-state memory. If they come back off because they only have touch buttons, the socket powers them but does not start them.

Do you need an electrician?

No, everything plugs into a socket. An electrician is only needed to switch a fixed wall-mounted extractor with no plug: in that case get in touch through the contact page for the right in-wall module.

Does it work with Alexa and Google?

Yes, through the eWeLink integration: the sockets show up in the assistant and switch on by voice, the fan at the start of a workout for example. The CO2 thresholds and the dehumidifier schedules, though, are set in the eWeLink app.

What happens if there is no internet?

The monitor carries on measuring and the sockets can be switched with their own buttons. The scenes between monitor and sockets, and remote control, depend on the connection and on what the manufacturer provides, and resume when the line comes back.

Can I run the dehumidifier on humidity?

In this kit the dehumidifier runs on a schedule or by hand, because the monitor is built for CO2. To start it on a humidity threshold you add a Sonoff temperature and humidity sensor: get in touch through the contact page.

What if a product is out of stock on Amazon?

Get in touch through the contact page quoting the kit code: we will point you to an alternative that works with the rest of the set, so you do not have to hunt for an equivalent model yourself and risk buying a part that will not talk to the other devices in the kit.

Why buy on Amazon?

Purchase, delivery, returns and warranty are handled by Amazon: delivery times, returns and warranty are shown on Amazon when you buy. The kit is our own work: we picked parts that work together, plus the accessories you actually need to fit it.
