What it does
- The TP-Link TL-MR105 router with a data SIM creates the home Wi-Fi network and connects it to the internet over 4G.
- The Shelly Flood Gen4 sensor, with its lead probe on the floor, detects water and the FrankEver DN15 motorised valve shuts off the house supply.
- The Shelly H&T Gen3 sensor measures temperature and humidity: if the house drops below the threshold you choose, the Shelly 1 Gen3 relay fires the boiler.
- The dry-contact relay wires to the boiler's thermostat input, like an extra room thermostat.
- The Sonoff CAM-B1P 2K outdoor camera watches the entrance or the garden and records to microSD.
- From far away you shut the water off or turn it back on, switch the heating on before you arrive and look in on the house.

How it is installed
4G router and network. The TL-MR105 router plugs into a socket and goes where the 4G signal is strongest, usually near an upstairs window. You need a data SIM from any operator, not included, with enough allowance for the camera. Every device in the kit joins its Wi-Fi network: test the 4G signal with your phone before choosing the spot.
Valve and water sensor. The DN15 motorised valve goes on the half-inch main water pipe, after the main stopcock: that is a plumber's job. The Flood Gen4 sensor's probe sits on the floor where water would reach first, the body is fixed to the wall. Valve and sensor both join the router's Wi-Fi.
The boiler relay and the wiring. The Shelly 1 Gen3 relay has a dry contact to be wired in parallel with the boiler's room thermostat input, following the boiler manual. The 230V connections are for qualified personnel with the supply isolated. If the boiler is on the balcony, the relay goes in the IP65 watertight enclosure included, with the IP68 glands for the cable entries. Wago connectors for the joints.
App, batteries and pairing. Fit the Energizer Lithium AA cells included in the kit, and the microSD in the camera. In the Shelly app add the valve, the Flood sensor, the relay and the H&T sensor; the camera is added in the eWeLink app, powered by the USB supply included where needed. Every device goes on the 4G router's Wi-Fi network, not on any other.
Recommended automations. Water detected: valve closed and a notification. Temperature below 5°C indoors: relay on, boiler running until it is back above the threshold. High humidity for days: a notification to air the place out on the next visit. The day before you arrive: heating on from the app. On leaving: valve closed.
Contents verified. The FrankEver Powered by Shelly valve, the Flood Gen4 sensor, the 1 Gen3 relay and the H&T Gen3 sensor are all Shelly Wi-Fi devices in the same app, where they combine into scenes; the Sonoff camera works over Wi-Fi with eWeLink, and they all use the network of the 4G router included. Accessories included: Wago connectors for the relay, IP65 weatherproof box and IP68 glands for the modules outdoors, High Endurance microSD for the camera, the 5V USB power supply that does not come in the box, and Energizer Lithium AA cells for the sensors.

Before you order
Do you need a hub?
No: all the devices are Wi-Fi and connect to the 4G router included. All you need is a data SIM from any network, not part of the kit, to put in the router. Choose a plan with enough data, especially if you watch the camera often.
Does it work with Alexa and Google?
Yes: the Shelly devices connect to Alexa and Google Home through the Shelly integration, the Sonoff camera through the eWeLink integration. For a second home, though, the app remains the more useful control, with the notifications on your phone.
Do you need an electrician?
Yes. The relay wires to the boiler and runs on 230V: it must be fitted by qualified personnel with the installation isolated. The valve goes on the water pipe: that is a plumber's job. The router, the sensors and the camera need no work on the installation beyond fixing them in place.
Will it work with my boiler?
With boilers that have a room thermostat input, which is most wall-hung boilers. The volt-free relay closes that input like an extra thermostat. Behaviour depends on the boiler and how it is set up: if in doubt, get in touch through the contact page with the model.
What happens if the 4G goes down?
With no connection no notifications arrive and you cannot control anything from outside. Actions set up locally on the Shelly devices stay active, as the manufacturer states, and the camera keeps recording to the microSD. When the signal comes back everything picks up on its own.
Are batteries included?
The kit includes a pack of Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA cells, which are not supplied with the sensors: lithium copes better with the cold of a house left empty over winter. Check how many cells each sensor takes and keep a spare for your next visit.
Can I add devices?
Yes: more water sensors for the bathrooms and the kitchen, modules for lights and roller shutters or a second camera. Everything joins the 4G router's Wi-Fi, which handles the devices of a household without trouble.
