Customisable kits. This is one of the Milesight LoRaWAN kits in the Smart Home Kit section. For different installations, custom kits or bespoke automation, write to us from the contact section.
Several sizes. The figures, diagram and table on this page describe the «8 cubicles, 2 blocks» size. The other sizes are selected at the top and are listed further down, under «Available sizes».
8 cubiclesFree or occupied for each cubicle, uses during the day, unusually long stays.
2 odour detectorsAmmonia and hydrogen sulphide, temperature and humidity: one per washroom block.
8 buttonsShort, double or long press: cleaning request, supplies run out, call for help.
4 leak sensorsOn the floor behind the sanitary fixtures: alarm with 0.5 mm of water, with buzzer.

What it does

  • A ceiling sensor in each cubicle detects whether it is free or occupied, with a declared accuracy above 99.5%. It is not a camera: it measures a distance and body heat, it produces no images.
  • The history shows how many times each cubicle has been used: the cleaning round is decided on the number of uses, and a cubicle occupied for too long generates a notification.
  • The odour detector in each block measures ammonia (0-10 ppm) and hydrogen sulphide (0-5 ppm): when the threshold is exceeded the team receives the request to attend that block.
  • Each button distinguishes three presses, short, double and long, and a meaning is assigned to each one: cleaning request, paper or soap run out, call for help.
  • The floor leak sensors behind the sanitary fixtures report water at 0.5 mm with a notification and a buzzer.
  • The notifications reach the smartphone of the staff on duty; history and charts by block and by time of day can be consulted from a PC.
For a different number of cubicles or washroom blocks, washrooms on several floors, urinals and accessible washrooms, if the building has no usable network and a 4G gateway is needed, for very large buildings: tell us the characteristics of your washrooms from the contact section and we will propose the correct configuration together with the quotation.
Litio Store washroom cleaning-on-demand kit: installation diagram in the washroom block
1Compact indoor LoRaWAN gateway, in a service corridor or a dry plant room near the washrooms, connected to the building network.
2Ceiling occupancy sensor above the toilet, one per cubicle. Eight in the kit.
3Wall-mounted odour detector, 2.0-2.5 m above the floor, one per washroom block. Two in the kit.
4Wall button to request cleaning or call for help. Eight in the kit.
5Floor water leak sensor, with buzzer, behind the sanitary fixtures. Four in the kit.

How it is installed

Gateway. Compact indoor unit (IP30, operation from -20 to +50 °C): on a desk, on the wall or on the ceiling with the supplied plate, in a dry room as close as possible to the washroom blocks, never inside the washrooms. USB-C 5 V power supply with an ordinary 2 A adapter, network connection with an Ethernet cable or the building Wi-Fi.
Occupancy sensors. On the ceiling, between 2.5 and 3 m high, level, with the centre of the sensor 10-20 cm from the centre of the toilet and the measuring side facing the front of the toilet. Fixed with two wall plugs and a bayonet plate or with double-sided tape. Where the ceiling is not suitable it is mounted on the wall, higher than the raised lid, with the sensing part facing downwards and never towards the door. Away from mirrors, glass and direct sunlight. With the test mode you check that the movement of the door does not trigger it.
Odour detectors. On the wall with a bracket and two wall plugs, 2.0-2.5 m above the floor, one per block. Not next to doors, windows, vents and extractors, and away from the points where deodorants, perfumes and alcohol-based detergents are sprayed. After switching on, about 30 minutes are needed before the readings are valid.
Buttons and leak sensors. Buttons on the wall with double-sided tape on a smooth surface or with screws and wall plugs, within reach and sheltered from splashes: they are IP30. Leak sensors laid flat on the floor, behind the sanitary fixtures or under the washbasins, where the water arrives first.
Configuration. Over NFC with a smartphone and the manufacturer's free app: names of cubicles and blocks, odour thresholds, meaning of the three button presses. The gateway is configured from a browser. No cables and no paid software are needed.
Documentation included. Written installation guide with heights, position of the sensors with respect to the toilet, points to avoid for the odour detectors and power-up sequence, and initial configuration of thresholds and buttons based on the details supplied when ordering.

Before you order

Is an internet connection needed in the washrooms?

Not in the washrooms. It is needed at the point where the gateway is installed: a network socket or the building Wi-Fi coverage. The sensors do not use Wi-Fi, they talk to the gateway by radio. If you cannot use the building network, the version with a 4G gateway is available, which requires a data SIM (not included, any operator, less than 1 GB of traffic per month). You choose it when ordering.

Does one gateway cover several washroom blocks?

Inside a building the range depends on walls and floor slabs: the gateway goes in a central position with respect to the blocks. For two blocks on the same floor or on nearby floors the compact gateway is adequate. For long shopping malls, stations, several floors or blocks far apart, choose the «large building» variant: semi-industrial IP65 gateway, with more range and able to be powered over PoE. One gateway handles hundreds of sensors.

Are there cameras? And what about user privacy?

No cameras and no microphones. The cubicle sensor combines a distance meter and a passive infrared sensor: it only transmits the free or occupied value, it identifies nobody.

How does the request reach the cleaning team?

As a notification in the app of the staff on duty, with the name of the block or of the cubicle and the reason: odour threshold exceeded, number of uses reached, button pressed, leak. Anyone already using work order software can receive the same events in that system and turn them into tickets.

I have more than 8 cubicles, urinals or washrooms on several floors

Among the product options you will find the 16 and 24 cubicle sizes, with odour detectors, buttons and leak sensors in proportion; gateway and platform stay the same. For different compositions write to us from the contact section stating the number of blocks, cubicles per block and floors: we will send you the composition and the quotation for the adapted kit.

How often are batteries and sensors replaced?

Cubicle sensors: about 4 years with 90 uses a day. Odour detectors: about 3 years with one reading every 10 minutes; the gas measuring cells also last 3 years, after which the detector has to be replaced. Buttons: over 7 years. Leak sensors: about 5.7 years. The batteries are lithium and replaceable; the charge level is visible in the app.

Where is the data consulted and are there any fees?

In the manufacturer's app and portal, from smartphone and PC, with charts, thresholds and notifications; no fee for basic use. Where facility management software, a ticketing system or monitors showing the free cubicles are present, the gateway can also send the data to that system (MQTT or HTTP): the configuration is included.

What happens if the internet is down?

The sensors keep detecting and transmitting to the gateway; the notifications resume once the line is back. The leak sensors sound on the spot anyway with the built-in buzzer. For a call for help the button does not replace a call system compliant with the standards for accessible washrooms.

Is an electrician needed?

No. All the sensors are battery powered and are fixed with screws or double-sided tape. The gateway is powered from a 5 V USB-C outlet and connects to the network with an Ethernet cable or over Wi-Fi.

Do they withstand humidity and wash-downs?

The leak sensors are IP67. Cubicle sensors, odour detectors and buttons are IP30: they work with humidity up to 95% without condensation, but they must not be reached by jets of water. On the ceiling and 2 m above the floor they are out of reach of ordinary wash-downs; the buttons go in a position sheltered from splashes.

What is not included
  • Sanitary fixtures, doors, dispensers and signage: those are the ones in your washrooms
  • The data SIM, in the version with a 4G gateway
  • The 5 V USB power supply for the gateway, if you do not already have one
