DC Combiner Box 1000 V with Type 2 SPD for 1 String and 1 MPPT
The direct current combiner box is installed on the DC side of the photovoltaic system, along the route of the cables connecting the string of modules to the inverter input. Its job is to protect the inverter and the modules from the surges that travel along the DC lines, which in photovoltaics are particularly exposed because they run outdoors and often over large areas.
Inside is a Phoenix Contact Type 2 surge protective device (SPD) for photovoltaics, sized for a string voltage up to 1000 V DC and wired to serve one string on one MPPT input. The arrester limits the impulses induced by indirect lightning strikes, keeping the voltage across the inverter input within a value the electronics can tolerate. The connections are made with original Stäubli MC4 connectors, for a quick and safe connection to the string and to the inverter.
