DC+AC Combiner Box with Type 2 SPD, 1 PV String 1000 V and 16 A Three-Phase AC Section
Combiner box combining DC and AC: it brings together in a single enclosure the protection of the direct current side and that of the alternating current side of a photovoltaic system. The DC side is designed for 1 PV string on 1 MPPT input with a voltage of up to 1000 V DC; the AC side is rated for a 16 A three-phase connection. It is the typical solution for small three-phase systems, where the installation of two separate boxes upstream and downstream of the inverter is to be avoided.
Both sections are protected by Type 2 surge protective devices: one on the direct current side, protecting the modules and the DC inputs of the inverter, and one on the alternating current side, protecting the inverter output and the line running to the building's main distribution board. Type 2 SPDs limit transient overvoltages caused by indirect lightning strikes and by grid switching operations, diverting them to the earthing system. The box is wall-mounted close to the inverter.
