DC+AC Combiner Box with Type 2 SPD, 1 PV String 1000 V and 20 A Three-Phase AC Section
Combiner box combining DC and AC that gathers into a single enclosure the protection of the direct current side and that of the alternating current side of a photovoltaic system. The DC side serves 1 PV string on 1 MPPT input with a voltage of up to 1000 V DC, while the AC side is rated for a 20 A three-phase connection, corresponding to three-phase inverters slightly larger than those of the 16 A version.
Both sections are fitted with Type 2 surge protective devices: the one on the direct current side protects the modules and the DC inputs of the inverter, while the one on the alternating current side protects the inverter output and the line reaching the main distribution board. Type 2 SPDs are the correct protection against transient overvoltages induced by indirect lightning strikes and by switching operations on the distribution grid. The box is wall-mounted next to the inverter, halfway along the route between the PV generator and the delivery point.
