Safiery STAR-Switch Icon Interchangeable CAN Keypad — 8 Button IP65

STAR is Safiery digital switching: wireless and CAN switching modules that replace relays and wiring looms and integrate straight into Victron systems. They are driven from a keypad, from the app or from the on-board display, and every channel is electronically protected.

CAN keypad with eight interchangeable icon buttons, IP65.

The STAR-Switch IC8 is the 8-button CAN keypad in the STAR digital switching range, built around interchangeable engraved icon buttons rather than a fixed rubber layout. Fit the icons that match what's actually wired — Awning Out, Canopy Light, AUX — and every switch is labelled for its real job. Rewire a circuit later and you swap the button, not the whole keypad.

It connects to your STAR controller over CAN, the same open SAE J1939/NMEA 2000 backbone the rest of the range runs on, and needs no setup of its own: the keypad requires no programming, because the controller is configured to listen for its button IDs instead. As with the rest of the STAR range, up to six buttons can be assigned to drive a single channel, and on a dual-colour or dual-channel output one button can control both — first press for channel A, second for channel B, third to run them together (the standard white/amber dual-LED setup). Each button's LED reports the true on/off state of its channel, even when that channel is also being switched over Bluetooth from elsewhere.

Construction is back-lit ABS, mountable landscape or portrait, and rated IP65 — dust-tight and protected against water jets, suited to a cabin, canopy interior, or covered exterior panel. For a fully exposed, wash-down exterior location, Safiery's rubber-cased STAR-Switch SP8 (the keypad bundled as standard in Jupiter packs) steps up to IP67; IC8 is the upgrade pick when you want relabelable icons and a slimmer flush face (9mm vs SP8's 16mm) rather than a fixed rubber button layout.

How it works

Digital switching replaces the relays and the wiring looms that normally link every switch to its load. A STAR module is fitted next to the loads (lights, pumps, awning, fridge) and short wires run from the module to the load; the buttons talk to the module over radio or CAN, so no control cable has to reach the dashboard. Every channel has its own electronic protection: if a load draws too much, the channel opens by itself and is reset from the button or the app, with no fuse to change. Connect the CAN bus to a Victron Cerbo GX or a Quasar Glass display and the same channels are controlled from the on-board screen.
