Customisable kits. This is one of the Milesight LoRaWAN kits in the Smart Home section. For different installations, custom kits or bespoke automations, write to us from the contacts section.
Several sizes. The figures, the diagram and the table on this page describe the «1 inverter» size. The other sizes are selected at the top and are listed further down, under «Available sizes».
AC output of the inverterThree split-core clamps up to 1,000 A, one per phase, without cutting the cables.
Light and temperature on the modulesIlluminance on the plane of the modules up to 100,000 lux and air temperature under the panels.
Inverter roomTemperature and humidity, water-sensing cable on the floor, contact on the door.
Drops in yieldCurrent produced and light available on the same chart: dirt, shade and stopped strings become visible.

What it does

  • The three-clamp meter reads the current on each phase at the inverter output and sends it every 10 minutes; from the voltage and power factor that have been set it also calculates the energy produced. A phase producing less than the others is immediately visible.
  • The light sensor, fixed on the plane of the modules, measures illuminance from 0 to 100,000 lux: it tells you how much light there was while the system was producing.
  • The temperature sensor under the modules completes the picture: with the same light, hotter modules yield less.
  • With full light and low current, the system is losing yield: dirty modules, new shade, a stopped string, an inverter in limitation. Comparing similar days shows it without waiting for the end-of-month figures.
  • In the inverter and storage room a sensor monitors temperature and humidity, with an alarm threshold for overheating; the sensing cable laid on the floor reports water along all of its 3 m.
  • The contact on the door of the room notifies every opening.
  • History, charts, thresholds and notifications can be consulted from a smartphone and from a PC, for one or several systems.
For systems with several inverters, outputs above 100 kW, small systems where a smaller clamp is enough, if there is no internet connection on site and a 4G gateway is needed, for ground-mounted systems far from buildings: tell us the characteristics of your system from the contacts section and we will propose the right configuration together with the quotation.
Litio Store photovoltaic system kit - production and inverter room: installation diagram on a rooftop photovoltaic system
1Wall- or pole-mounted LoRaWAN gateway, IP65, connected to the company network: it collects the data from the sensors on the roof and in the inverter room and sends it to the cloud.
2Current meter with three split-core clamps, in the AC board downstream of the inverter: one clamp per phase.
3Light sensor on the plane of the modules, with the measuring window facing the sky.
4Compact temperature sensor under the modules, fixed to the structure.
5Wall-mounted temperature and humidity sensor in the inverter room.
6Flood sensor with a 3 m sensing cable laid on the floor in the inverter and storage room.
7Magnetic contact on the door of the inverter room.

How it is installed

Gateway. On the wall or on a pole with the bracket supplied, in the inverter room or on the outside wall of the building, high up and in view of the roof: it is IP65 and works from -40 to +70 °C. Powered with the adapter supplied or over PoE, connected to the network by Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi. If the inverter room is underground or made of reinforced concrete it is better to mount it outdoors. Declared range up to 2 km in an urban area and 15 km in open country.
Current meter. In the AC board downstream of the inverter or of the paralleling board. Each clamp opens and snaps shut around a single phase conductor, never phase and neutral together, never around a multicore cable; 51 mm opening, clamp leads 1 m long. The clamp on phase A powers the device: at least 10 A are needed to transmit, below that threshold the USB-C 5 V power supply is used. The transmitter is fixed with cable ties inside the board.
Sensors on the modules. Light sensor on the structure, coplanar with the modules, with the round window facing the sky and never in shade; the transmitting body on a pole or on the wall with its own bracket. Temperature sensor under the modules, in the shade: with a magnet on a steel structure, with a cable tie on an aluminium structure, with the measuring slot not facing upwards. Measuring range from -30 to +60 °C.
Inverter room. Temperature and humidity sensor on the wall with screws or double-sided tape, away from the hot air flow of the inverter and from metal masses. Sensing cable laid on the floor along the walls or under the battery cabinets, fixed with plastic cable clips, not with glue and not with metal parts; the cable cannot be extended. Magnetic contact on the inside of the door, with the two parts aligned no more than 20 mm apart.
Configuration. Sensors via NFC with a smartphone and the manufacturer's free app: reading intervals, temperature thresholds, names of the measuring points. The current meter has no NFC: it is configured from a PC with a USB-C cable and the manufacturer's free software, and that is where the voltage and power factor for the energy calculation are set. The gateway is configured from a browser.
Documentation included. Written installation guide with positions, distances, position of the clamps on the phases and power-up sequence, plus initial configuration of thresholds and of the energy calculation parameters based on the system data given at the time of the order.

Available sizes

The size is selected at the top, together with the version and the connectivity. The diagram, the photo and the table above show the «1 inverter» size; with the other sizes only the quantities of the devices listed below change, the rest of the kit is identical.

  • 1 inverter: 1 three-phase current meter
  • 2 inverters: 2 three-phase current meters
  • 3 inverters: 3 three-phase current meters

In the complete kit the installation material related to these devices (brackets, boxes, clips, cables, enclosures) follows the size chosen. For a different size, write to us from the contacts section.

Available connectivity options

  • Customer network (Ethernet/Wi-Fi/PoE): 1 semi-industrial LoRaWAN gateway
  • Built-in 4G: 1 semi-industrial LoRaWAN gateway with 4G. SIM not included

In the complete kit the material for the gateway changes accordingly as well (network cable, pole, PoE injector). The SIM for the 4G versions is not included.

Before you order

Is an internet connection needed?

It is needed at the point where the gateway is installed: a network socket or the company Wi-Fi coverage. The sensors do not use Wi-Fi, they talk to the gateway over radio. If there is no line on site, as in rented industrial buildings or ground-mounted systems, the version with a 4G gateway is available, which requires a data SIM (not included, any operator, traffic below 1 GB per month). It is selected at the time of the order.

Do the sensors on the roof reach the gateway?

Yes, in normal cases: the gateway is declared for up to 2 km in an urban area and 15 km in open country. Metal roofing and reinforced concrete slabs attenuate the signal: this is why the kit gateway is an outdoor one, IP65, and can be mounted on the outside wall in view of the roof. The current meter works inside a metal board: if the signal is weak, the gateway is moved closer or the transmitter, whose leads are 1 m long, is brought outside the sheet metal.

Does it work with any inverter?

Yes. The clamps measure the current on the outgoing AC cables, with no connections to the inverter and without cutting the conductors: brand and model do not matter. The cables have to pass through a 51 mm opening. The meter is powered by the current it measures and transmits with at least 10 A on phase A; when the system stops it stays active for about 12 hours, then starts again with production. The inverter is not included.

Does it measure energy like a meter?

No. It measures the current, with an accuracy of 1%, and calculates the energy from the voltage and power factor that you set: it is a monitoring figure, not a fiscal meter, and it does not replace the production meter. It is there to show trends, imbalances between the phases and stoppages, and to compare days with one another.

How do you recognise a drop in yield?

You put the current produced, the light on the modules and the temperature on the same chart. With the same light and temperature the current should be the same: if it falls over time there is dirt, shade or a stopped string. The sensor measures illuminance in lux up to 100,000, not irradiance in W/m² like a pyranometer: it is a stable reference for comparisons, not an instrument for contractual performance tests.

I have several inverters or a system above 100 kW

The kit is configured around the system: one three-clamp meter is added for every inverter or for every line to be monitored, while the gateway and the platform stay the same. Among the product options you will find the 2- and 3-inverter sizes; for small systems, several roof pitches with different orientations or ground-mounted systems write to us from the contacts section stating the output, the number of inverters and the distances: we will send you the composition and the quotation for the adapted kit.

Outdoor resistance and battery life

The temperature sensor and the body of the light sensor are IP67, the light measuring head is IP65, with operation from -30 to +60 °C: they stay outdoors permanently. The temperature sensor goes in the shade under the modules, not in contact with the glass, where more than 60 °C are reached in summer. The current meter and the door contact are indoor devices. The lithium batteries of the sensors can be replaced, with a declared life of up to 10 years with one reading every 10 minutes at 25 °C; about 5 years for the door contact. The current meter has no battery.

Where is the data consulted and are there any fees?

On the manufacturer's app and portal, from a smartphone and a PC, with charts, thresholds and notifications; no fee for basic use. Where plant monitoring software or energy management software is in place, the gateway can also send the data to that system (MQTT or HTTP): the configuration is included.

What happens if the internet goes down?

The sensors keep measuring; the light sensor keeps the readings in memory. The gateway in this kit can run local rules even without a connection to the cloud. Notifications on the phone resume when the line comes back. If the mains voltage fails the gateway stops: the absence of data in the app is already a signal.

Is an electrician required?

Yes, for the current meter: the clamps are fitted without disconnecting anything, but inside a live board, and that is work for a qualified person. The sensors are battery-powered and are fixed with screws, cable ties or a magnet; installing on the roof requires safe access to the roof covering.
