The SMA Sunny Boy Storage SBS2.5-1VL-10 is a single-phase hybrid inverter rated 2.5 kW: it converts the output of the PV modules, charges and discharges the storage battery and exchanges with the grid, all in a single unit with a single control logic.
In normal operation the energy produced and not consumed is stored in the battery instead of being exported, and becomes available again in the evening: it is the most direct way to raise self-consumption. The backup output keeps the essential loads running even when the grid is down.
SMA Solar Technology is the German manufacturer that set many of the standards of the PV inverter: conservative electronics, mature firmware and a service network across Europe.
