Bilge alarm kit with pump, Shelly Plus Uni and 4G router

Warns you on the phone when water rises in the bilge and lets you run the pump remotely. The Shelly Plus Uni reads the float switch, the Shelly Plus 1 switches the 12V bilge pump and the 4G router sends the alert even when you are far away. Built for boats on their moorings, as an addition to the boat's own automatic pump.

Who it is forBoat owners with the boat on her mooring who want to know straight away if water is getting in.
What you monitorBilge float switch, 12V pump and, with the second Uni, battery voltage.
How you control itShelly app remotely through the 4G router, with alerts and pump control.
InstallationBy an electrician or marine fitter: 12V connections with a dedicated fuse.

What it does

  • One input on the Shelly Plus Uni reads the bilge float switch contact and sends a notification when it rises.
  • The Shelly Plus 1, running on 12V, operates the bilge pump remotely, either directly or through a power relay.
  • A rule can start the pump when the float switch lifts and stop it after a maximum run time.
  • The second Plus Uni in the box reads the leisure battery voltage, so you know whether the pump has power.
  • The 4G router with a SIM brings the alerts to your phone even when you are far from the harbour.
For more bilges, a back-up water sensor, humidity and companionway monitoring or a camera, get in touch from the contact page: we will suggest the right configuration for your boat.

How it is installed

Router and power supply. The RUT241 runs on DC and connects to the 12V service line through a dedicated fuse, with the polarity respected. It goes below deck somewhere dry, with the antennas clear; you fit a data SIM, not included, and set up the Wi-Fi the modules join. At the berth the battery needs charging from shore power or from a solar panel.
Plus Uni and float switch. The Plus Uni runs at 12V and the float switch contact wires to one of its inputs, following the manufacturer's diagram. The second Uni reads the service battery voltage, with a fuse close to the positive terminal. The work is done with the system disconnected, by someone who knows the boat's electrics.
Plus 1, pump and wiring. The Plus 1 runs at 12V and its contact goes in parallel with the pump's existing control, leaving the automatic float switch in place. Within the continuous current limits stated by the manufacturer it drives the pump directly; beyond that, use a power relay. The modules go in the IP65 weatherproof enclosure with Wago connectors and IP68 cable glands, above bilge level.
App and pairing. In the Shelly app you add the modules to the router's network and rename them, “Bilge float switch”, “Service battery” and “Bilge pump” for example. Test the system by lifting the float switch by hand: the notification must arrive and, if you have set it up, the pump must start. Check the voltage reading against a tester.
Recommended automations. An urgent notification when the float switch lifts and a second one if it stays up for more than a few minutes, a sign that the pump cannot keep up. A rule starts the pump with the float up and stops it after a maximum run time, to keep it from running dry. An alert for low battery voltage completes the picture.
Contents verified. The Plus Uni and the Plus 1 are both Shelly, run on 12V and share the same app; the 4G router provides the network and carries the alerts out to the internet. Included are the Wago lever connectors for wiring the modules, the IP65 waterproof box of 200×155 mm to keep the modules on board clear of water and vibration, and the IP68 cable glands for sealed cable entry.

Before you order

Do you need a hub?

No. The Plus Uni and the Plus 1 connect to the Wi-Fi of the 4G router included, which takes everything online with a data SIM. No gateways or other equipment are needed: the Shelly app reaches the modules through the router.

Does it replace the automatic pump?

No. The bilge pump with its automatic float switch must keep working on its own, without depending on the kit. The Shelly adds the remote alert and a parallel command, useful if the float switch jams.

Do you need an electrician?

Yes, or a marine fitter: the modules wire into the 12V system and to the pump with dedicated fuses, the correct polarity and cables suited to the marine environment. The work must be done with the system disconnected.

What pump can I switch?

A 12V bilge pump within the continuous current limits the manufacturer states for the Plus 1. For more powerful pumps the Plus 1 drives a marine power relay, not included.

What happens if there is no mobile signal?

The rules set on the modules carry on over the on-board network, and the automatic pump works regardless. The notifications arrive when coverage comes back. Check the signal at your berth before relying on the alerts.

Will the kit flatten the battery?

The router and the modules are on all the time and draw from the service battery. At the berth you need shore charging or a solar panel, neither included. The second Plus Uni warns you if the voltage drops.

Can I add devices?

Yes: a back-up water sensor, BLU sensors for humidity and the companionway hatch with a gateway, more relays for lights or ventilation. It all goes into the same Shelly app and onto the same router network.

What if a product is out of stock on Amazon?

An item can go out of stock or be replaced by a new version. Get in touch through the contact page: we will point you to an alternative that works with the rest of the kit, so you do not have to check it against the other devices yourself.

Why buy on Amazon?

Purchase, payment, delivery, returns and warranty are handled by Amazon and by the sellers of the individual items. The kit is our own work: we choose the parts, check that they work together and tell you how to fit it. Delivery times, returns and warranty are shown on Amazon when you buy.
