What it does
- The clamp on the main live conductor measures what the home is drawing at any moment.
- When the total gets close to the threshold you set, the first Shelly 1PM Gen3 drops the least important load, for example the water heater.
- If consumption stays high, the second 1PM sheds another load, such as a fan heater or the portable air conditioner.
- When consumption falls, the loads come back on one at a time, after the delay you set.
- The app shows the total consumption, the load sheds and how much the two loads draw.

How to install it
Wi-Fi network. The kit has no hub: the Shelly EM and the two 1PM connect to the home router on the 2.4 GHz network. Check the Wi-Fi coverage near the consumer unit and at the points where the relays go; if it is weak, a repeater is needed. In the Shelly app you create the account and the home, then choose which loads may be shed.
Meter in the consumer unit. The Shelly EM mounts on the DIN rail in the kit's 4-module enclosure and is powered at 230V. The clamp clips onto the main live conductor downstream of the meter, with the arrow pointing the way the manufacturer indicates, so it measures the whole house's consumption. The 230V connections in the consumer unit must be made by qualified personnel with the system isolated.
Relays and wiring. The two Shelly 1PM Gen3 are fitted on the lines of the loads to be shed, in the consumer unit or in junction boxes, within 16A each: water heater, fixed heater, air conditioner. The kit includes the 4-module enclosure (2 for the Shelly EM plus spare), the ferrules for stranded conductors and the Wago lever connectors.
App and pairing. In the Shelly app, add the Shelly EM and the two relays with the guided procedure. Check that the power reading is positive when there is consumption. Switch the loads on one at a time and read their power on the 1PM units: you need those figures to set the shedding order and the thresholds.
Recommended automations. Create two scenes: above a first threshold, just below the available contract power, switch off the first 1PM; above a higher threshold switch off the second one as well. When consumption stays below for a few minutes, switch them back on one at a time. Add a notification so you know when it happens.
Contents verified. The Shelly EM and the two Shelly 1PM Gen3 are handled in the same app, so the total reading drives the relays directly. The kit includes the 4-module enclosure (2 for the Shelly EM plus spare ways), the ferrules for wiring inside the consumer unit and the Wago connectors for the modules.

Before you order
Do you need a hub?
No. The Shelly devices in the kit connect straight to the home Wi-Fi router and are managed from the Shelly app, on a smartphone or in a browser. Good Wi-Fi coverage is needed at the consumer unit: metal enclosures and cellars weaken it.
Does it work with Alexa, Google or Apple?
The kit is managed from the Shelly app, with charts and consumption history. Through Shelly's integrations the devices can be brought into Alexa and Google Home, for example to switch off a load by voice. Readings and energy-based automations are best kept in the Shelly app.
Do you need an electrician?
Yes. The devices mount in the distribution board or in a small enclosure next to it and connect to the 230V line: the work must be done by qualified personnel with the system switched off. The kit gives the installer the enclosure, ferrules and connectors needed for tidy wiring.
What happens if the internet goes down?
Metering carries on and the devices stay reachable from the app on the home network. Scenes handled in the cloud may not run without internet: for reliable load shedding it is better to configure the logic locally on the devices, as stated by the manufacturer. Otherwise the meter can trip just as it did before.
Can I add more devices?
Yes. In the same app you can add metering plugs, 1PM relays for other loads and meters for further circuits. Write to us from the contact page if you would like a kit built around your own consumer unit.
Do I need to buy any batteries?
No. Every device in the kit runs off mains power and uses no batteries. So there are no spares to keep at home and no charge levels to check: if the power goes off, the devices stop and start again on their own when it comes back.
Which loads are worth shedding?
The ones that can wait a few minutes without any trouble: an electric water heater, fixed panel heaters, portable air conditioners, dehumidifiers. The oven, the induction hob and the washing machine normally stay on the priority list. Every switched load has to stay within the relay's 16A; above that, use a contactor.
What if a product is out of stock on Amazon?
