Shelly smartphone door release kit for entry phones with NFC tag

A Shelly 1 Gen3 relay wired to the door entry unit's release button opens the building's main door from your phone, at home or away. With the two NFC tags you only have to tap the phone to open it, thanks to an automation on the phone itself. It is run from the Shelly app, with no hub, and the door entry unit carries on working as before.

Who it is forAnyone in a flat with an electric release for the main door on the door entry phone.
What you monitorThe door release for the communal entrance or for the pedestrian gate.
How you control itShelly app, an NFC tag with your phone's automation, Matter platforms.
InstallationBy an electrician: the relay is wired to the door-release button of the entry phone.

What it does

  • The Shelly 1 Gen3 closes its contact for an instant in parallel with the door release button: it is like pressing the key button on the entry phone.
  • From the Shelly app you open the main door at home or away, for a relative or a courier, for example.
  • With the NFC tags, holding the phone to a tag starts an automation that triggers the door release.
  • With Matter the relay also appears in Apple Home, Alexa and Google Home, to open by voice or from a scene.
  • The door entry phone stays as it was: it rings, you answer and you release the door with its own button.

How it is installed

Wi-Fi network. The relay joins the home Wi-Fi, with no hub. The door entry unit is nearly always near the front door: check with your phone that the router signal reaches that spot properly. You also need a supply for the relay nearby, as the manufacturer specifies.
The relay on the door entry unit. The Shelly 1 Gen3's contact wires in parallel with the entry phone's door release button, across the two cores the button closes when you press it. It works with installations where the button closes a contact; with some two-wire digital entry phones this needs checking first. The 230V wiring is for a qualified electrician, with the supply isolated.
Accessories and wiring. The Wago 221-413 lever connectors are for joining the relay's wires. If the module will not fit behind the door entry phone, use a deep 503 back box or, as an alternative, the Gewiss junction box: both are optional and chosen according to the space available. The NFC tags are stuck wherever you need them.
App and pairing. In the Shelly app add the relay and set the output to pulse mode, with automatic switch-off after about a second, like a push-button. Then build an automation on the phone tied to the NFC tag, with Shortcuts on iPhone or an automation app on Android, that fires the Shelly when you hold the phone up to it.
Recommended automations. Stick one tag near your front door and one in the car or on your keyring: hold your phone up and the door opens without hunting for the app. Add the relay to Apple Home, Alexa or Google over Matter to open by voice. If you like, set a notification every time the door release is used.
Contents verified. The Shelly 1 Gen3 has a contact suited to driving the door release button and is managed in the Shelly app; the Sonoff NFC tags are generic tags that the phone reads to start the automation. The kit includes the Wago 221-413 connectors for the connections; deep 503 boxes and a Gewiss junction box are optional, if the module will not fit behind the entry phone.

Before you order

Do you need a hub?

No. The Shelly 1 Gen3 connects straight to the home Wi-Fi and is managed from the Shelly app. The NFC tags need no hub: the phone reads them and then sends the command to the relay.

Will it work with my door entry phone?

It works on systems where the door-release button closes a contact between two wires, which covers most analogue door entry phones. On some two-wire digital audio and video entry systems, wiring in parallel is not enough. Send us the make and model from the contact page and we will check before you buy.

How do the NFC tags work?

The tag does not open anything by itself: when you hold your phone up, the phone reads it and runs an automation you have created, with Shortcuts on iPhone or an automation app on Android, which triggers the Shelly. The phone needs NFC switched on and a connection to the internet or to the home network.

Does it work with Alexa, Google and Apple?

The Shelly 1 Gen3 is Matter-compatible: it is added to Apple Home, Alexa and Google Home as a switch. For the door release it is better to use scenes or commands with confirmation, to avoid opening the door by accident.

Do you need an electrician?

Yes: the relay is wired to the door entry unit's release button and given a supply. Work on 230V must be carried out by qualified personnel, with the installation isolated. In a block of flats, if work on the communal installation is needed, tell the building manager.

What happens if there is no internet?

The door entry phone carries on working as before with its own button. Without internet, though, you cannot release the door from the app when you are out; at home, with the phone on the Wi-Fi, the command can still reach the relay on the local network.

What if a product is out of stock on Amazon?

Get in touch through the contact page quoting the kit code and the product you cannot find: we will point you to an alternative that works with the Shelly app, so you keep a combination we have checked and you do not have to hunt for an equivalent model yourself.

Why buy on Amazon?

Purchase, payment, returns and warranty are handled by Amazon, as with any other order on the site. The kit is our own work and we checked that the parts work together; delivery times, returns and warranty are shown on Amazon when you buy.
