Shelly BLU dry cabin anti-mould kit, 3 sensors
Three Shelly BLU H&T ZB sensors measure temperature and humidity in the cabin, in the bow and in a locker while the boat sits unused for months. The BLU gateway sends the readings to the Shelly app, and when shore power is on the smart sockets run the dehumidifier only if the humidity goes above the threshold you choose.

What it does
- The three BLU H&T ZB sensors read temperature and humidity in the cabin, in the forward cabin and in a locker, where condensation forms first.
- The Shelly BLU Gateway Gen3 receives the data over Bluetooth and puts it on the Wi-Fi network: you see it in the Shelly app, with the history.
- When humidity goes above the chosen threshold, a Shelly Plug S Gen3 socket switches the dehumidifier on; below the threshold it switches it off.
- The second socket runs another appliance, a small fan heater or a second dehumidifier for example, and meters it too.
- You get a notification if humidity stays high for too long or if the shore supply fails and the sockets drop offline.

How it is installed
Gateway and network. The BLU Gateway Gen3 is powered over USB: the kit includes a flush-mount 12V USB socket to wire into the on-board supply with a dedicated fuse. Put it below deck in a central position, away from metal bulkheads. You need a Wi-Fi network on board, from a boat or 4G router, or the marina's: it is not included in the kit.
Humidity sensors. The three BLU H&T ZB sensors go where humidity matters: in the cabin, in the forward cabin and in a locker or closed wardrobe. Fix them to a bulkhead with the tape or stand them on a shelf, at mid height, away from the portlights and the dehumidifier outlet, which would skew the reading.
Sockets and dehumidifier. The two Shelly Plug S Gen3 sockets go into the 230V outlets fed from the shore supply. The dehumidifier goes in the first, left switched on at its own switch: the socket is what gives it power or takes it away. Check that the appliance's power is within the socket's limits as given by the manufacturer.
App and pairing. In the Shelly app add the gateway to the on-board Wi-Fi first, then the two sockets. The BLU sensors pair to the gateway from the app, one at a time: name each after the spot you put it in, so in the history you can tell cabin, bow and locker apart at a glance.
Recommended automations. A rule that starts the dehumidifier when humidity in the cabin goes above 65% and stops it below 55%, with figures to suit the boat. A notification if a sensor stays above the threshold for hours. A notification when the sockets go offline: usually it means the shore power has gone.
Contents verified. The BLU H&T ZB sensors, the BLU Gateway Gen3 and the Plug S Gen3 sockets belong to the Shelly ecosystem and are managed from the same app. The kit includes the flush 12V USB socket needed to feed the gateway from the on-board system; the pack of spare CR2032 batteries is optional and covers several changes for the three sensors.

Before you order
Do you need a hub?
Yes, and it is included: the Shelly BLU Gateway Gen3, which picks up the Bluetooth sensors and puts them on the Wi-Fi network. The Plug S Gen3 sockets, on the other hand, join the Wi-Fi directly. So a Wi-Fi network on board is needed, and it is not included: the boat's own router, a 4G router or the marina Wi-Fi.
Does it work with Alexa and Google?
Yes, with the Shelly skill for Alexa and the Shelly integration in Google Home you can control the sockets and read the data. On a boat left for months, though, the Shelly app with its history and notifications is what gets used. The devices also work in Home Assistant.
Do you need an electrician?
Not for the sensors and the sockets: the sensors run on batteries and the sockets simply plug in. The only wiring is the 12V USB socket for the gateway, connected to the on-board system on its own fuse: if you are not confident, have a marine electrician do it.
What happens if there is no internet?
If the on-board Wi-Fi stays up, the rules between sensors and sockets keep running as set in the app, but you cannot see the data from home and you get no notifications until the connection comes back. With no shore power the sockets go dead and the dehumidifier stops.
Does the dehumidifier work without shore power?
No. The Shelly plugs work at 230V and so does the dehumidifier: without shore power or an inverter they stay off. The battery sensors do keep measuring, and the gateway stays on from the 12V USB socket as long as the service batteries feed it.
Can I add sensors?
Yes. The BLU gateway takes other Shelly BLU sensors: humidity in the bilge or in another cabin, contacts on the hatches, motion sensors. They are added in the app without changing anything else. For a larger setup get in touch through the contact page.
Are batteries included?
The BLU H&T ZB sensors take a CR2032 cell: what comes as standard is stated on the product's Amazon listing. The kit also has an optional pack of ten spare CR2032 cells, handy for changes during winter storage.
