What it does
- Each Shelly Plug S MTR Gen3 measures the power and energy of the desk it feeds: monitor, laptop charger, lamp.
- The app shows the kWh per desk by day and by month, useful for splitting the costs or for a pay-as-you-use plan.
- The Shelly Power Strip 4 Gen4 switches the sockets in the shared areas, for a kettle, a coffee machine or a printer.
- At the end of the day every workstation and shared area switches off on a timer, apart from whatever you choose to leave on.
- An alert flags the workstations that are drawing power overnight or on closing days.

How it is installed
Wi-Fi network. The sockets and the power strip are Shelly Wi-Fi and need no hub: they join the coworking router. With nine devices it is worth checking the Wi-Fi coverage at every desk, especially those furthest from the router or behind plasterboard walls with a metal frame.
Desk sockets. Each Plug S MTR Gen3 goes into the desk's wall or floor socket, and the desk extension lead plugs into the smart plug. Check that the appliances connected together stay within the plug's limits as given by the manufacturer, keeping fan heaters and other heaters off it.
Communal area. The Power Strip 4 Gen4 goes in the shared area, plugged into a wall socket, with the appliances that are to be switched separately: coffee machine, kettle, printer, chargers. Each socket on the strip switches on and off on its own. No wiring and no tools.
App and pairing. In the Shelly app add the eight sockets and the extension block to the Wi-Fi and name them after the desk or its number: “desk 1”, “desk 2”. Create a room for each area of the coworking space. The MTR sockets are Matter compatible: if you use Apple Home, Alexa or Google, you can add them there too.
Recommended automations. Every workstation off at 21:00 and back on at 8:00 on working days. Coffee machine on half an hour before opening and off after lunch. Printer off at the weekend. An alert if a workstation draws more than the threshold overnight, and a monthly consumption summary per workstation.
Contents verified. The eight Plug S MTR Gen3 sockets and the Power Strip 4 Gen4 extension block are Shelly devices and are managed from the same app, with no hub. The kit needs no installation accessories: the sockets and the extension block plug into the existing outlets.

Before you order
Do you need a hub?
No. The plugs and the extension lead connect straight to the coworking Wi-Fi. You need good Wi-Fi coverage at every desk and an internet connection to use the app remotely.
Does it work with Alexa, Google and Apple?
Yes. The Plug S MTR Gen3 sockets are Matter compatible and add to Apple Home, Alexa and Google Home with a Matter controller; on top of that there are the Shelly skill for Alexa and the Shelly integration for Google Home. Every device also works in Home Assistant.
Can I split the consumption between the coworkers?
The app shows the kWh of each socket by day and by month: a solid basis for splitting the costs or offering a pay-as-you-use plan. It is not a fiscal meter: for invoicing, what counts is the agreement you make with your customers.
Do you need an electrician?
No. The plugs and the extension lead go into the existing sockets, with nothing touched on the electrical installation. They can be moved when you rearrange the desks: in the app you just rename them with the new desk number.
What happens if there is no internet?
The schedules are saved in the devices and carry on working, and the sockets carry on metering. Without internet you cannot see the consumption remotely and cannot use voice control until the connection is back.
Can I add desks?
Yes, one more Shelly socket per new workstation is all it takes: it appears in the same app, with its own consumption. For large spaces consider a meter in the board as well: get in touch through the contact page for the build.
Are there batteries?
No. The plugs and the extension lead are mains-powered and use no batteries. After a power cut they reconnect to the Wi-Fi on their own and pick up the schedules you set, with nothing to do.
What if a product is out of stock on Amazon?
