Fridge and cabin monitoring kit with Shelly BLU H&T

Keeps an eye on the temperature of the fridge, the locker and the motorhome's cab on summer trips. A Shelly BLU sensor with display stays in the cab, two compact sensors go in the fridge and the locker, and the BLU gateway, powered from the 12V USB socket, brings the readings into the Shelly app, with alerts when they go out of range.

What it does

  • The BLU H&T sensor with display shows the cabin temperature and humidity, readable at a glance.
  • A compact sensor inside the fridge reports if the temperature rises, with the gas fridge switched off or the door not properly shut, for example.
  • The second sensor in the locker or the pantry watches the heat in closed compartments, where drinks and medicines are kept.
  • The BLU gateway in the 12V USB socket collects the sensor data and brings it into the app.
  • Above the thresholds you set a warning comes through, useful for the cabin too when there are animals on board.
For a 4G router so the alerts reach you from far away, opening sensors, leisure battery monitoring or more sensors, get in touch from the contact page: we will suggest the right configuration for your vehicle.

How it is installed

Network and gateway. The BLU Gen3 gateway is powered from the included flush-mount USB socket, wired to the 12V line with a dedicated fuse. The app needs a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network on board, from a 4G router or a hotspot, neither included. Put it somewhere central, near the fridge, so it picks up the sensor inside it properly.
Sensor with display. The sensor with display fixes in the cab or the dinette at a comfortable reading height, out of the direct sun through the windscreen and away from the heater. That way it reads the air inside and not a surface warmed by the sun. It fixes with the double-sided tape or the screw, depending on what comes in the box.
Sensors in the fridge and the locker. One compact sensor goes on an inside wall of the fridge, on a middle shelf, away from the evaporator. The other goes in the locker or the pantry. The fridge walls weaken the Bluetooth signal: check in the app that the readings come through with the door shut before you settle on the final position.
App and pairing. In the Shelly app you add the BLU gateway to the on-board network, then pair the three sensors one at a time. Rename them by position, “Cabin”, “Fridge” and “Locker” for example. The kit needs no wiring accessories beyond the 12V USB socket.
Recommended automations. An alert when the fridge goes above the maximum temperature you have set for food and one when the cab goes above a heat threshold, which matters if you leave animals on board. A high-humidity alert flags condensation in the closed compartments. To receive them away from the motorhome you need internet on board.
Contents verified. Gateway and sensors are from the Shelly BLU range and run in the same app. The flush-mounted 12V USB socket is included, to power the gateway from the motorhome's system without leaving a smartphone or a loose adapter plugged in.

Before you order

Do you need a hub?

You need the Shelly BLU Gen3 gateway, included, which collects the data from the Bluetooth sensors. The gateway needs a Wi-Fi network on board, from a 4G router or a hotspot, not included.

Does the signal get out of the refrigerator?

The fridge walls weaken Bluetooth. The gateway goes near the fridge and the sensor on a middle shelf; before fixing everything, check in the app that the readings come through with the door shut.

Do I get the alerts when I am away?

Only if there is internet on board, from a 4G router or a hotspot that stays on. Without internet the readings show on the display in the cabin, and in the app whenever your phone is on the motorhome's network.

Do you need an electrician?

No for the sensors, which run on batteries. Only the flush-mounting USB socket has to be wired to the 12V circuit on a dedicated fuse and with the right polarity: if you are not confident, have a motorhome fitter do it.

Are batteries included?

The two compact sensors each take a CR2032 cell; what every sensor comes with is whatever each item's Amazon listing states. The charge level shows in the Shelly app.

Can I add devices?

Yes: contacts on the door and the lockers, a button, modules for the battery voltage or for lights and the pump, a 4G router. It all goes into the same Shelly app and uses the same BLU gateway.

Does it work with Alexa and Google?

The Shelly app links to Alexa and Google Home when there is internet on board: you can ask for the fridge temperature by voice. Threshold alerts are better set in the Shelly app.

What if a product is out of stock on Amazon?

An item can go out of stock or be replaced by a new version. Get in touch through the contact page: we will point you to an alternative that works with the rest of the kit, so you do not have to check it against the other devices yourself.

Why buy on Amazon?

Purchase, payment, delivery, returns and warranty are handled by Amazon and by the sellers of the individual items. The kit is our own work: we choose the parts, check that they work together and tell you how to fit it. Delivery times, returns and warranty are shown on Amazon when you buy.
