What it does
- When a resident walks onto a landing, the Shelly BLU Motion sensor picks them up and the Pro 1 switches the stairwell light on.
- The light goes off after the time set from the last movement, instead of staying on for a fixed period.
- The stairwell buttons keep working, wired to the Pro 1 input, for anyone who prefers to switch the light on by hand.
- The BLU sensors also read light level: during the day, with the stairs already bright, switching on can be blocked.
- In the app the building manager sees the state of the circuit and changes times and schedules without calling the engineer.

How it is installed
Network and Bluetooth range. The Pro 1 joins the Wi-Fi or the building's wired network, where there is one, and picks up the BLU sensors over Bluetooth. Bluetooth range through floors and walls is limited: before fixing the sensors, check in the app that every landing reaches the Pro 1. For the furthest floors a Shelly Bluetooth repeater may be needed, to be added separately.
Module in the board. The Pro 1 goes on DIN rail in the communal-areas board or in the included 4-module surface enclosure. Its contact switches the stairwell lighting circuit, directly or in place of the existing stair timer relay, as per the diagram. The 230V wiring is for a qualified electrician, with the supply isolated, within the contact's rating.
Sensors and wiring. The BLU Motion sensors fix to the wall on each landing, at about two metres, facing the flights and not the windows or the light fittings. The existing buttons wire to the Pro 1 input to the manufacturer's diagram. Use the crimp ferrules for wiring inside the board and the included Wago 221-413 connectors for the joints.
App and pairing. In the Shelly app, add the Pro 1 to the network and turn on the Bluetooth gateway function. Pair the four BLU sensors one at a time and rename them after the floor. Walk up and down the stairs and check in the app that every sensor reports movement and that the light comes on within an instant.
Recommended automations. Set up an action: motion on any landing switches the light on, and it goes off two or three minutes after the last movement. Block it when the measured light level is already enough. Set a longer time in the evening and check that the push-buttons always switch the light on, even when a sensor picks nothing up.
Contents verified. The Shelly Pro 1 picks up the Shelly BLU Motion sensors through its Bluetooth gateway function and runs in the same Shelly app. The kit includes the 4-module surface enclosure, which takes the DIN module with room to spare, the crimp ferrules for wiring inside the board and the Wago 221-413 connectors for the joints.

Before you order
Do you need a hub?
No: the BLU sensors talk over Bluetooth to the Shelly Pro 1, which puts them on the network. You need a Wi-Fi or cable connection at the board, for example a router dedicated to the communal areas.
Does the signal reach every floor?
It depends on the floors, the walls and the distance from the board. Bluetooth has a limited range: with the board on the ground floor, the upper landings may not be reached. Test the signal in the app before you fix the sensors; for the far floors you add a Shelly Bluetooth repeater. Get in touch through the contact page.
Do you need an electrician?
Yes. The Pro 1 goes in the building's board on the 230V stairwell lighting circuit: the connections must be made by qualified personnel, with the installation isolated, following the manufacturer's diagram. The battery sensors go on with no electrical work.
Does it work with Alexa or Google Home?
The devices run from the Shelly app, which also offers integration with Alexa and Google Home as the manufacturer describes. In a block of flats, app access is best given to the managing agent or the maintenance contractor, not to every resident.
What happens if there is no internet?
Communication between the sensors and the Pro 1, and the actions set on the device itself, work locally, so the light still comes on as people pass. The push-buttons always work. Without a line, only remote control and notifications are missing.
Are batteries included?
The BLU Motion sensors run on a coin cell; check on the Amazon listing whether it is already in the box. Each sensor's charge level shows in the app, so the building manager knows when to change it.
Can I add more floors?
Yes: for each floor you add a BLU Motion sensor, paired to the same Pro 1, and a repeater if the signal does not reach. Several stairwells need one module per lighting circuit. Get in touch through the contact page.
What if a product is out of stock on Amazon?
