Shelly BLU on-board security kit with 4G router
Two motion sensors and three Shelly BLU contacts watch the cabin, the hatches and the lockers, and a BLU Button Tough1 arms and disarms the alarm. The BLU gateway puts the events on the network and the Teltonika 4G router sends them to your phone even at anchor, where there is no marina Wi-Fi.

What it does
- The two Shelly BLU Motion sensors pick up movement in the cabin and around the companionway.
- The three Shelly BLU Door/Window sensors report the main companionway and two lockers or wardrobes being opened.
- The BLU Button Tough1 arms the alarm when you step ashore and disarms it when you come back aboard.
- With the alarm set, every opening or movement raises a notification on the phone with the name of the sensor.
- The BLU Gateway Gen3 collects the sensors over Bluetooth and the Teltonika RUT241 4G router provides the connection on board, even away from the quay.
- The app also shows the sensors' battery levels and the event history.

How it is installed
4G router and gateway. The Teltonika RUT241 router goes in a dry locker near the switch panel, with a data SIM (not included); it runs off the 12V on-board supply on a dedicated fuse, as the manufacturer specifies. The BLU Gateway Gen3 runs off the flush-mounted 12V USB socket included in the kit, centrally placed below deck, and joins the router's Wi-Fi.
Motion sensors. The two BLU Motion are fixed to a bulkhead about two metres up, facing the walkway: one in the cabin and one towards the companionway steps. Keep them off portholes and clear hatches, where sun and reflections off the water can set off false alarms.
Opening contacts. The three BLU Door/Window sensors stick to the frame of the companionway and the lockers, with the magnet on the moving part, aligned and a few millimetres from the sensor. On GRP surfaces, clean thoroughly with alcohol before applying the tape. Always use the dedicated fuse when wiring the USB socket and the router.
App and pairing. In the Shelly app add the gateway to the 4G router's Wi-Fi, then pair the sensors and the button to the gateway, one at a time, giving each a clear name: “companionway hatch”, “aft locker”, “cabin”. Test every sensor by opening and closing, and check the event reaches the app.
Recommended automations. A rule on the button: a single press arms the alarm, a double press disarms it. With the alarm armed, a notification for every movement or opening. A notification too when a sensor's battery drops below the threshold, and an alert if the gateway stays offline, a sign that the power or the 4G network has gone.
Contents verified. The BLU Motion and BLU Door/Window sensors, the BLU Button Tough1 button and the BLU Gateway Gen3 all belong to the same Shelly ecosystem; the Teltonika RUT241 router provides the Wi-Fi network the gateway connects to. The kit includes the flush 12V USB socket to feed the gateway from the on-board system; the pack of ten spare CR2032 cells is optional and covers the four CR2032 devices.

Before you order
Do you need a hub?
Yes, and it is included: the Shelly BLU Gateway Gen3 picks up the Bluetooth sensors and puts them on the network. The Teltonika RUT241 4G router, also included, provides the connection on board; all you need is a data SIM with a small monthly allowance, which is not included.
Is there a siren?
No, the kit warns you with notifications on your phone. It is built so you know at once what is happening on board and can call the marina or go down yourself. If you also want an audible or visual warning on board, get in touch through the contact page and we will tell you how to add one.
Does it work with Alexa and Google?
The main app is Shelly, with notifications and history. Shelly devices work with Alexa and Google Home through their respective integrations, and with Home Assistant, but for an alarm on a boat the typical use is still the app with push notifications.
Do you need an electrician?
Not for the sensors and the button: they run on batteries and fix with double-sided tape or screws. The USB socket and the router connect to the 12V on-board system, each on its own fuse: if you are not confident with on-board systems, have a marine electrician do it.
What happens if the 4G network goes down?
The sensors carry on detecting, but the notifications do not get through until the router is back in coverage. At anchor, away from the coast, coverage depends on the SIM's network: it is worth checking it where you moor most often.
Are batteries included?
The sensors and the button run on batteries; what comes as standard is stated on each product's Amazon listing. The kit includes an optional pack of ten spare CR2032 cells. The gateway and the router have no batteries: they stay on as long as the on-board system feeds them.
Can I add sensors?
Yes. The gateway takes other Shelly BLU devices: contacts on other lockers, motion sensors in the cockpit, temperature and humidity sensors. They are added in the app. For a larger build get in touch through the contact page.
What if a product is out of stock on Amazon?
