Compact Shelly 3EM-63W Gen3 three-phase kit, up to 63A

The Shelly 3EM-63W Gen3 is a DIN-rail meter for three-phase or single-phase installations up to 63A, with direct wiring and no external clamps: it measures consumption and, with four-quadrant metering, exported energy too. Two Plug S Gen3 plugs round off the picture at appliance level. All over Wi-Fi in the Shelly app.

Who it's forFor small consumer units and supplies up to 63A, three-phase or single-phase.
What you measurePower and energy per phase, imported and exported, plus two plug-in appliances.
How you control itShelly app with charts and history; the plugs are switched by hand, on a schedule or from a scene.
InstallationElectrician needed: the meter is wired in series on the line, inside an 8-module consumer unit.

What it does

  • The Shelly 3EM-63W Gen3 measures each phase's current directly, with no clamps, up to 63A.
  • Four-quadrant metering tells imported energy from exported energy, which is useful with a solar system.
  • The app shows power per phase, the total and charts by hour, day and month.
  • The two Plug S Gen3 measure the consumption of two appliances and switch off by hand, on a schedule or from a scene.
  • A threshold on total power can send you a notification or switch off one of the sockets.
For supplies above 63A, for more circuits to measure or to drive loads from the surplus, write to us from the contacts section and we will tell you the right kit.

How to install it

Wi-Fi network. The kit has no hub: the meter and the plugs connect to the home router on the 2.4 GHz network. Check the Wi-Fi coverage near the consumer unit, which is often in the garage or the cellar, and plan for a repeater if the signal is weak. In the Shelly app you create the account and the home.
Meter in the consumer unit. The Shelly 3EM-63W Gen3 mounts on the DIN rail in the kit's 8-module enclosure and is wired in series on the line, phases and neutral, downstream of the meter and to the manufacturer's diagram, for three-phase or single-phase. The current in each phase must not exceed 63A. The 230V connections in the consumer unit must be made by qualified personnel with the system isolated.
Accessories and plugs. The kit includes the 8-module surface-mount consumer unit (4 for the meter, the rest spare), the crimp ferrules for stranded conductors and the Wago lever connectors for the joints. The two Plug S Gen3 go into the wall sockets of the appliances to be measured, with no power strips in between.
App and pairing. In the Shelly app, add the meter and the plugs with the guided procedure and connect them to the Wi-Fi. In the app, pick the three-phase or single-phase configuration that matches the wiring and check that the power reads positive when there is consumption. Give the plugs clear names based on the appliance.
Recommended automations. Set a notification for when total power gets close to your contracted power and, if you like, a scene that switches off the plug feeding the least important load. Schedule the TV and set-top box plug to switch off overnight. With a solar system, look at the export chart to move consumption into the sunny hours.
Contents verified. The Shelly 3EM-63W Gen3 and the Plug S Gen3 are handled in the same Shelly app, so the reading at the consumer unit can switch the plugs. The kit includes the 8-module enclosure (4 DIN modules for the meter plus spare ways), the ferrules for wiring inside the consumer unit and the Wago lever connectors.

Before you order

Do you need a hub?

No. The Shelly devices in the kit connect straight to the home Wi-Fi router and are managed from the Shelly app, on a smartphone or in a browser. Good Wi-Fi coverage is needed at the consumer unit: metal enclosures and cellars weaken it.

Does it work with Alexa, Google or Apple?

The kit is managed from the Shelly app, with charts and consumption history. Through Shelly's integrations the devices can be brought into Alexa and Google Home, for example to switch off a load by voice. Readings and energy-based automations are best kept in the Shelly app.

Do you need an electrician?

Yes. The devices mount in the distribution board or in a small enclosure next to it and connect to the 230V line: the work must be done by qualified personnel with the system switched off. The kit gives the installer the enclosure, ferrules and connectors needed for tidy wiring.

What happens if the internet goes down?

Metering carries on: the Shelly devices keep logging the data and stay reachable from the app on the home network. Without internet you cannot see the data while you are out and cloud-based scenes may not run; actions configured directly on the devices keep working locally.

Can I add more devices?

Yes. In the same app you can add metering plugs, 1PM relays for other loads and meters for further circuits. Write to us from the contact page if you would like a kit built around your own consumer unit.

Do I need to buy any batteries?

No. Every device in the kit runs off mains power and uses no batteries. So there are no spares to keep at home and no charge levels to check: if the power goes off, the devices stop and start again on their own when it comes back.

How does it differ from the version with clamps?

The 3EM-63W Gen3 takes the line current straight through it, up to 63A per phase, and it is compact. Models with clamps, like the Pro 3EM, are not inserted into the line and also suit higher currents. For supplies above 63A the clamp version is needed.

What if a product is out of stock on Amazon?

It happens, especially with multipacks and newly released products. Write to us from the contacts section with the kit code and the product you can't find: we'll point you to an alternative that fits the rest of the kit, so it keeps working as described.

Why buy on Amazon?

We put the kit together and tested it ourselves, picking the parts and checking that they work together. Purchase, payment, returns and warranty are handled by Amazon: delivery times, returns and warranty are shown on Amazon at the time of purchase, item by item.
