Aqara small office kit: presence-controlled lighting and climate, 2 zones

Two Aqara FP2 presence sensors detect who is sitting at a desk, even when still, and two Aqara T1 relay modules switch the lights of the two zones accordingly. The W100 climate sensor keeps an eye on temperature and humidity. The Aqara M3 hub runs it all locally and is controlled from the Aqara Home app or from Apple Home, Alexa and Google.

Who it is forFor offices of two to ten people that want lights to switch themselves off when the room empties.
What you monitorThe lights in two areas, presence per area, and the office temperature and humidity.
How you control itAutomatically on presence, from the existing switches, from the Aqara Home app and over Matter.
InstallationBy an electrician for the two T1 modules; the sensors and the hub you fit yourself.

What it does

  • Each Aqara FP2 sensor uses mmWave radar and detects presence even when someone is working still at a computer, splitting the room into several zones.
  • The two Aqara T1 relay modules with neutral, behind the existing switches, turn the lights in the two zones on and off.
  • When a zone empties the lights go off after the time chosen; when somebody walks in they come back on.
  • The Aqara W100 sensor measures temperature and humidity and shows them in the app, useful for setting the office climate.
  • The Aqara M3 hub runs the automations locally and brings the devices into Apple Home, Alexa and Google Home through Matter.
  • The wall switches stay in use for manual control.

How it is installed

Aqara M3 hub. The M3 hub goes in a central position between the two areas, connected to the router with the network cable if possible, away from metal cupboards. It is the first device added to the Aqara Home app. The FP2 sensors, on the other hand, connect to the office Wi-Fi: check the coverage where you intend to mount them.
Presence sensors. Each FP2 fixes to a wall or in a corner, up high, facing the desks in its zone, and is USB-powered as the manufacturer describes. Avoid pointing it at curtains, fans or plants that move. In the app you draw the room map and set the zones.
Relay modules and wiring. The two T1 modules go behind the light switches, where the neutral is present, one per zone, within the limits given by the manufacturer. The joints are made with the included Wago connectors; if a module will not fit, there are the optional deep 503 boxes or the junction box. Work for a qualified electrician, with the supply isolated.
App and pairing. In the Aqara Home app you pair the two T1 modules and the W100 sensor to the M3 hub, and add the two FP2 units to the Wi-Fi. Use clear names, such as “window zone lights” and “window zone presence”, and walk in and out of the zone a few times to tune the timings.
Recommended automations. Zone lights on when the FP2 detects presence during office hours, off after ten minutes with nobody there. Everything off in the evening once both zones are empty. A notification if the temperature goes above 27°C or humidity above 65%, so you can adjust the air conditioning.
Contents verified. The T1 modules with neutral and the W100 sensor pair with the Aqara M3 hub, and the FP2 sensors work in the same Aqara Home app, so automations can tie them together. The kit includes Wago connectors for wiring the modules and, as options, deep 503 boxes if a module will not fit behind the switch, or the Gewiss junction box instead.

Before you order

Do you need a hub?

Yes, and it is included: the Aqara Hub M3. The T1 modules and the W100 sensor connect to the hub, while the FP2 sensors use the office Wi-Fi. The hub runs the automations between presence and lighting.

Does it work with Alexa, Google and Apple?

Yes. The Aqara M3 hub supports Matter and brings the devices connected to it into Apple Home, Alexa and Google Home; the Aqara Home app also links up through the Aqara skill for Alexa and through Google Home. Presence automations are best kept in the Aqara Home app, which runs locally on the hub.

Do you need an electrician?

Yes, for the T1 relay modules: they fit behind the light switches and need a neutral. 230V connections must be made by qualified personnel, with the installation isolated. The hub and the sensors you can fit yourself.

What happens if there is no internet?

The automations set up in the Aqara Home app run locally on the M3 hub, so the lights carry on following presence as long as the local network is up. Without internet you lose the app from away and voice control.

Does the FP2 sensor notice someone sitting still?

Yes, that is its strength: the mmWave radar picks up even the small movements of someone sitting at a computer, unlike ordinary infrared sensors, which switch the light off on anyone working still. The sensitivity does need adjusting in the app.

Can I add devices?

Yes. The M3 hub takes plenty of Aqara and Matter devices: more lighting modules, opening sensors, controls for the air conditioner or the roller shutters. They are added in the Aqara Home app. Get in touch through the contact page for the build.

Are batteries included?

The W100 climate sensor runs on a CR2450 cell; what comes as standard is stated on the product's Amazon listing. Hub, T1 modules and FP2 sensors are powered from the mains or over USB.

What if a product is out of stock on Amazon?

It happens, above all with multipacks. Get in touch through the contact page quoting the kit code and the item that is missing: we will point you to an alternative that works with the rest of the set, so you can finish the order without changing the other parts.

Why buy on Amazon?

Purchase, payment, delivery, returns and warranty are handled by Amazon: delivery times, returns and warranty are shown on Amazon when you buy. The kit itself is our own work: we picked parts that work together, plus the accessories needed to fit them.
