Several sizes. The figures, diagram and table on this page describe the «2 malaxers» size. The other sizes are selected at the top and are listed further down, under «Available sizes».
2 malaxersOne sensor with two PT100 probes and a display: the temperature is read on the malaxer and stays recorded batch by batch.
Oil storeTemperature and humidity at 2 points of the storage room, with minimum and maximum thresholds.
DecanterCurrent on the three phases of the line, to see running hours, load and abnormal draw.
Process waterReading of the pulse meter and floor flood sensor with buzzer.

What it does

  • The two-probe sensor follows the two malaxers: the temperature appears on the display and is sent every 10 minutes to the gateway connected to the network of the mill.
  • For each malaxer a maximum threshold is set: the notification arrives when the paste approaches the limit you have set yourselves for cold extraction.
  • The curve of every malaxing stays in the history, which can be consulted from smartphone and from PC; the sensor also stores 10,000 readings in its own memory, exportable to CSV or PDF.
  • Two sensors in the store record temperature and humidity near the oil tanks, a third one monitors the room where the olives are received and held.
  • The three-clamp meter measures the current drawn by the decanter line: running hours, load trend and a consumption calculated from the voltage that has been set.
  • The pulse counter totalises the litres of the process water meter; the floor sensor sounds and warns when the water reaches it.
For a different number of malaxers, more lines, the monitoring of other motors, if there is no internet connection in the mill and a 4G gateway is needed, for mills with thick walls or several buildings: tell us the characteristics of your plant from the contact section and we will propose the right configuration with a quotation.
Litio Store olive oil mill kit: installation diagram in the mill
1Compact indoor LoRaWAN gateway, in the office or in a dry room, connected to the network of the mill: it collects the data from all the sensors and sends it to the cloud.
2Two-probe temperature sensor with display, on the wall next to the malaxers: one PT100 probe in the thermowell of each one.
3Compact temperature and humidity sensor in the oil store. Two in the kit.
4Temperature and humidity sensor in the olive room.
5Three-clamp current meter in the panel, on the conductors of the decanter line.

How it is installed

Gateway. On a desk, on the wall or on the ceiling in a dry room: office, shop, corridor. It is a compact indoor gateway (IP30, operation from -20 to +50 °C): it must not go in the processing room, nor where jet washing is done. USB-C 5 V power supply, connection with an Ethernet cable or the Wi-Fi of the mill. With thick walls it must be placed in the most central position possible.
Malaxer sensor. On the wall or on a bracket next to the malaxers, with the display vertical and below eye level. The two PT100 probes, with a 1.5-2 m cable, are inserted into the probe thermowells of the malaxers; if a malaxer does not have one, a free half-inch socket is needed on which to screw a thermowell. IP65 body, IP67 probes: keep it out of the jet of the washing. Battery powered or from USB-C 5 V.
Store and olive room. In the store the two compact sensors are fixed to the wall or to an upright near the tanks, with the measuring slot never facing upwards; they measure from -30 to +60 °C. In the olive room the sensor goes on the wall with screws, double-sided tape or a cable tie, away from doors and draughts. They are all IP67.
Decanter, water and floor. The three clamps are closed in the panel each around a single phase conductor of the decanter line, never phase and neutral together; 36.5 mm opening, up to 500 A, clamp cables of 1 m. The meter is powered by the current it measures, from about 5 A upwards: a job for an electrician. The pulse counter is connected with two wires to the pulse output of the water meter, with 1 m of cable supplied. The leak sensor is laid flat on the floor where the water arrives first, not in the places that get wet at every wash.
Configuration. Via NFC with a smartphone and the free app from the manufacturer: reading intervals, thresholds, names of malaxers and rooms, litres per pulse. The exception is the current meter, which is configured from a PC with a USB-C cable. The gateway is configured from a browser. No paid software.
Documentation included. Written installation guide with positions, pairing of probes and malaxers, mounting of the clamps and switch-on sequence, and initial configuration of the thresholds based on the values indicated when ordering.

Available sizes

The size is chosen at the top, together with version and connectivity. The diagram, the photo and the table above show the «2 malaxers» size; with the other sizes only the quantities of the devices listed below change, the rest of the kit is identical.

  • 2 malaxers: 1 two-probe temperature recorder, 2 PT100 probes
  • 4 malaxers: 2 two-probe temperature recorders, 4 PT100 probes
  • 6 malaxers: 3 two-probe temperature recorders, 6 PT100 probes

In the complete kit the installation material linked to these devices (brackets, thermowells, clips, cables, boxes) follows the size chosen. For a different size write to us from the contact section.

Available connectivity

  • Customer network (Ethernet/Wi-Fi): 1 compact indoor LoRaWAN gateway

Before ordering

Is an internet connection needed in the mill?

It is needed at the point where the gateway is installed: a network socket or Wi-Fi coverage, usually in the office. The sensors do not use Wi-Fi, they talk to the gateway by radio. If there is no line in the mill, the version with a 4G gateway is available, which requires a data SIM (not included, any operator, less than 1 GB of traffic per month). It is chosen when ordering.

Does the signal pass between processing room, store and office?

In a building the range depends on walls and floors. The compact gateway of the basic version suits a compact mill and must be placed in a central position. For very thick stone walls, underground stores, several buildings or sheds, choose the «large building» version: a gateway with greater range, IP65, which can be powered via PoE. One gateway handles hundreds of devices.

The malaxers already have their own panel thermometer

The kit does not touch it: it adds one probe per malaxer with continuous recording, history and alarms. A free probe thermowell is needed, or a half-inch socket on which to screw one; the probe has a diameter between 4 and 6 mm. The kit measures and warns, it does not control the water of the jacket. Malaxers, decanter and meters are not included.

Is the recording valid for the «cold extracted» wording?

The kit provides the temperature curve of every malaxing, with date and time, exportable to CSV or PDF: it is a piece of evidence to attach to your traceability documentation. The sensor with display is declared compliant with the EN 12830 standard on temperature recorders. Compliance with the requirements of the wording remains the responsibility of the mill and of the inspection body.

Does the current meter give the kWh of the decanter?

It measures the current on the three phases, not the voltage: the consumption in kWh is a value calculated from the voltage and the power factor that are set. It is suitable for comparing seasons, shifts and batches, not for fiscal purposes. It is powered by the current of the line: below about 5 A it does not transmit.

I have 4 malaxers or more lines

Every additional sensor follows another two malaxers, gateway and platform stay the same. Among the product options you will find the 4 and 6 malaxer sizes. For more lines, other motors to monitor or more stores write to us from the contact section stating machines and rooms: we will send you the composition and the quotation for the adapted kit.

Battery life

The malaxer sensor with two probes lasts more than 2.7 years on batteries and can be powered permanently from USB-C. The temperature and humidity sensors reach 10 years with one reading every 10 minutes at 25 °C, the pulse counter about 5 years, the leak sensor about 5 years with a button cell. All the batteries are replaceable and the charge level is visible in the app.

Where is the data viewed and are there any fees?

On the app and on the portal of the manufacturer, from smartphone and PC, with charts, thresholds and notifications; no fee for basic use. If a mill management system is in place, the gateway can also send the data to that system (MQTT or HTTP): the configuration is included.

What happens if the internet is down?

The sensors keep measuring and the display on the malaxer stays readable. The malaxer sensor and the pulse counter store the readings in memory and retransmit them when the connection comes back; the leak sensor sounds on site anyway. Notifications on the smartphone resume when the line is restored.

Is an electrician needed? And what about the washing?

Not for the battery sensors: they are fixed with screws, cable ties or double-sided tape. The clamps of the current meter are mounted in the panel and must be installed by an electrician. The malaxer sensor is IP65, probes and ambient sensors IP67: they withstand humidity and splashes, not the direct jet of the lance. The current meter (IP30) goes in the panel, the gateway (IP30) in a dry room. The floor sensor detects water and conductive liquids, not oil.

What is not included
  • Malaxers, decanter, tanks and the water meter with pulse output: these are the ones in your mill
  • The fitting of any sockets on the malaxers without a connection and of the clamps in the panel
  • The data SIM, in the version with a 4G gateway
  • In the "devices only" version: thermowells, signal cable, Ethernet cable and small parts
