Particulates, volatile compounds and CO2 in the laboratories, methane detection in the chemistry laboratory and in the kitchen, footfall at the canteen, noise, microclimate of the gym and SOS buttons. LoRaWAN radio transmission, data and notifications from the app.
What it does
- In the two laboratories a wall-mounted monitor measures fine particulates (PM2.5 and PM10), volatile organic compounds, CO2, temperature, humidity, pressure and light. The display, the traffic-light LED and the buzzer warn whoever is in the laboratory when the thresholds are exceeded.
- In the chemistry laboratory and in the canteen kitchen a methane detector sounds at 85 dB, sends the notification and can drive an extractor fan or a siren on the spot (relay output) and a gas shut-off solenoid valve (12 V pulse output).
- The people counter at the canteen entrance counts entries and exits in both directions without recording images: the chart by time slot serves to spread out the sittings.
- The noise sensors in the canteen and in the gym record the sound level in dBA, with average and peak values.
- In the gym two watertight temperature and humidity sensors keep the microclimate of the hall and of the changing rooms under control.
- The SOS buttons in the laboratories send an immediate call to the designated people: the technical office, the deputy head, the first-aid staff.
- History, charts and notifications can be consulted from a smartphone and from a PC.

Before you order
Is the school network needed?
It is needed only by the gateway: an Ethernet socket or Wi-Fi, with outbound internet access allowed. The sensors do not use Wi-Fi, they talk to the gateway by radio. If there is no data line in the building the version with the 4G gateway is available, which requires a data SIM (not included, any operator, traffic below 1 GB per month). It is chosen when ordering.
Does one gateway cover the laboratories, the canteen and the gym?
Inside a building the range depends on walls and floor slabs: the gateway goes in a central position with respect to the rooms monitored. If the laboratories, the canteen and the gym are in the same block, the compact gateway is sufficient. With the gym in a separate building, very thick walls, several floors or a campus the «large building» variant is preferable, with a semi-industrial gateway with greater range, IP65 and PoE power supply; alternatively a second gateway is added. One gateway handles about 2,000 devices.
Which gases does it detect and what can the detector drive?
It detects only the methane of the town gas supply. It does not detect LPG, carbon monoxide or the vapours of laboratory reagents: if the kitchen or the laboratory is supplied with LPG in cylinders or in a tank, this detector is not suitable. In alarm it sounds at 85 dB and closes a relay contact rated 250 V and 10 A, which can be used for an extractor fan or a siren; a second 12 V pulse output drives a pulse-type gas shut-off solenoid valve. The solenoid valve, the extractor fan and the relevant connections are not included. The sensor has a life of 5 years from switch-on, after which the detector has to be replaced.
Does the people counter film the students?
No. It uses a thermal matrix sensor, with no camera: it produces no images and identifies nobody. It counts the passages in both directions with a stated accuracy of up to 90%: it is a footfall figure for organising sittings and staff, not an attendance register.
Who receives the call from the SOS button?
The people indicated in the configuration, with an immediate notification on the app. The button distinguishes a short, a long and a double press, and confirms the sending with an LED and a buzzer. The call goes through the gateway and through the internet: the button complements, and does not replace, the alarm devices and the emergency procedures laid down in the school's plan.
We have more laboratories or more sites
The kit is configured on the school: for each additional laboratory an air monitor and an SOS button are added, for each room with methane appliances a detector; the gateway and the platform stay the same. Write to us from the contact section stating the number of laboratories, rooms with gas, canteen entrances and the distance between the buildings: we will send you the composition and the quotation for the adapted kit.
Battery life and power supply
The gateway and the methane detectors go to a socket. The air monitors run on batteries for about one year, because measuring the particulates consumes power: for a permanent installation a USB-C 5 V socket is preferable. The people counter is powered by USB-C 5 V or by batteries, depending on the version supplied; on batteries it lasts about 1.7 years. Noise sensors from 3 to 5 years, temperature and humidity sensors from about 6 to more than 10 years, SOS buttons more than 7 years. All the batteries are lithium, replaceable, with the level visible in the app.
Where is the data consulted and are there any fees?
On the manufacturer's app and portal, from smartphone and PC, with charts, thresholds and notifications; no fee for basic use. Where there is a building management system or a platform belonging to the owning authority, the gateway can also send the data to that system (MQTT or HTTP): the configuration is included.
What happens if there is no internet?
The methane detectors sound and operate their own outputs on the spot, with no need for the network. The air monitors keep showing the values on the display and keep the readings in memory, as do the people counter and the gas detectors. Notifications, SOS calls and the history on the portal resume when the line comes back.
Is an electrician necessary?
For installing the battery-powered sensors, no: they are fixed with screws, cable ties or double-sided tape. An electrician is needed if there are no sockets near the methane detectors, which have to be mounted high up, or near the air monitors, and to connect the detector outputs to an extractor fan, a siren or a solenoid valve. Work on the gas system is the job of a qualified installer.
