Solis MB-S4-W4 Commercial Data Logger up to 80 Inverters with Built-in Web Server
The MB-S4-W4 is the data logger for large arrays: built for commercial and industrial plants, it holds up to 80 inverters on a single unit. It does more than collect data: it performs protocol conversion and power control, which makes it the point from which the plant obeys grid export constraints.
Those 80 inverters are spread across 4 RS485 ports, up to 20 devices per port and up to 1000m per run: before commissioning it is worth planning how to split the array into four runs rather than one very long line. Facing outwards there are 2 LAN ports at 10/100Mbps, dual-band Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity, with Modbus-RTU on serial and Modbus-TCP or IEC 60870-5-104 on Ethernet. There are also 4 digital inputs, 2 digital outputs and 4 analogue inputs for plant signals.
What you notice on site is the built-in web server: monitoring and configuration happen in a browser, with no app to install and no dependence on anybody’s phone. At commissioning, address allocation takes a single command instead of addressing eighty machines one by one, and upgrades and maintenance are done remotely.
Two features suit sites where data continuity matters: automatic switching between two power sources, so the logger is not lost when one of them drops, and offline data storage — breakpoint resume transmission — which keeps readings when the link fails and sends them on once it is back: 30 days with 30 inverters, 15 days with 60, proportionally less above that. It also supports data transfer for multi-master plants.
One installation caveat: ingress protection is IP20, so the unit belongs inside a cabinet or a dry plant room, not outdoors. The temperature range, on the other hand, is wide: -40 to +60°C.
