How it works

Supermarket induction hobs work by pulsing: at half power they switch the load on and off, and on a battery system that means peaks that trip the inverter. Safiery hobs regulate power continuously, so the draw is steady and a 2000 W inverter really is enough. The same goes for hot water: the 8-litre tank heater brings water to 70 °C drawing 400 W at 12 V (or 1,000 W at 48 V), and the instant heater is there when you want hot water straight away with no storage.
