What it does
- The Pro 3EM's three current clamps close around the cables of three separate loads and meter them individually, or around the three phases of a three-phase circuit.
- The app shows instantaneous power and daily and monthly energy for each circuit.
- The Shelly 1PM Gen3 meters one more single-phase circuit, the yard lights for example, and can switch it on and off as well.
- You set a notification if a load's consumption rises beyond the usual, the booster set starting up at night because of a leak for example.
- The historical data lets you compare months and seasons and back up how the costs are shared out.

How it is installed
Network. The Pro 3EM has a LAN port: it connects to the building's or the plant room's router with the included 10 m Cat6 cable, or over Wi-Fi if the signal reaches the board. The Shelly 1PM Gen3 joins the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. With no connection the modules still measure, but cannot be read remotely.
Pro 3EM and clamps. The electrician fits the 8-module BTicino consumer unit next to the communal board, downstream of the utility meter and never on the meter itself. The Pro 3EM is powered inside the board and each clamp closes around one phase conductor: stairs, lift, booster pump. Work on 230V is done with the power off, by qualified personnel.
1PM module and wiring. The Shelly 1PM Gen3 is fitted in the junction box of the chosen circuit, in series with the load, within the maximum current the manufacturer gives. The crimp ferrules are for the modules' terminals, the Wago 221 connectors for the joints. Label each clamp with the name of its load, to avoid mixing them up during configuration.
App and pairing. In the Shelly app you add the two modules. In the Pro 3EM you pick the profile: three separate single-phase circuits or one three-phase supply, according to how the clamps were fitted. The channels are renamed after their loads and access is shared with the managing agent and the committee members.
Recommended automations. Notification if the booster set draws current for longer than a set time at night, the classic sign of a leak. Notification if the stairwell consumption goes above average, for example because a light has been left on. Monthly summary of each circuit's consumption, to attach to the service charge accounts.
Contents verified. The Shelly Pro 3EM and the Shelly 1PM Gen3 run in the same Shelly app and their data is read side by side. Included are the 8-module BTicino enclosure (3 DIN ways plus spare), the Wago 221 connectors for the module joints, the ferrules for wiring inside the board, five 1 metre Cat6 cables for the links inside the board and one 10 metre cable for the run to the router.

Before you order
Do you need a hub?
No. The Pro 3EM connects to the router by cable or over Wi-Fi, the Shelly 1PM Gen3 over Wi-Fi, and both are managed in the Shelly app. You need an internet connection in the room with the panel, usually the building's router or the one in the plant room.
The lift and the booster pump are three-phase: does it still work?
The Pro 3EM has three clamps. Used on three separate single-phase supplies, each clamp measures one. On a three-phase supply all three clamps are needed for that one circuit: to measure more than one three-phase supply you need more Pro 3EM units. Get in touch through our contact page with the board layout.
Does it go on the utility's meter?
No. It goes in the communal distribution board, downstream of the meter, on the cables of the individual circuits. The utility's own meter is not touched. The work must be done by a qualified electrician with the supply isolated.
What happens if there is no internet?
The modules keep measuring; the data can be read on the local network as long as the router is on. Remote notifications and the history update again when the connection is back, within the manufacturer's own functions.
Can I add more measurements?
Yes: more Pro 3EM meters can be added in the enclosure, which has spare ways, or more Shelly 1PM Gen3 units on the single-phase circuits. They all appear in the same app, with history and notifications.
Who can see the data?
The Shelly app account can be shared with authorised people, for example the building manager and the committee members. The data covers only the communal supplies, not the individual flats, which stay on their private meters.
