Class T battery protection kit

The DC side of a 48V storage system, protected with the reference fuse of lithium banks

Victron Lynx Class-T Power In · Class T fuses 20,000A · cable and lugs

This kit contains the protection devices and the wiring only: the inverter and the batteries you already have, or buy separately. You pick the inverter size and how many 48V batteries go in parallel, and the right material arrives, already sized.

It is the professional version of our protection kit: instead of MEGA fuses it carries Class T, the only fuse in this class with a declared DC interrupting rating, 20,000A. That is why Class T is the standard on LiFePO4 banks in marine and professional off-grid work: a lithium battery in short circuit delivers thousands of amperes, and on DC the arc does not self-extinguish the way it does on AC.

How it is built: the heart of it is the Victron Lynx Class-T Power In, a module of the Lynx system with a 1000A M10 busbar and two positions for Class T fuses. The modules bolt to each other into one continuous bar, so when more than two positions are needed another one is added alongside. With a single battery on a single-input inverter the busbar is not needed: the kit then contains an in-line Class T fuse holder.

One thing about sizes. Class T fuses come in two mechanically different and non-interchangeable formats: 110-200A have an M8 hole and 42.86mm centres, 225-400A a 10mm hole and 46.7mm centres. Only the 225-400A fit the Lynx Class-T Power In, and those are the ones we put in the kits. The 160A that many people look for does not exist in this family.

How to pick the size

Count the number of battery inputs on the inverter, not just the kW: inverters up to roughly 12kW have one positive and one negative, those from 14kW upwards almost always have two and need two pairs of cables. The cable size shown is the one the manuals prescribe for that current.

Two things worth knowing: the cables that run from each battery to the busbar are almost always supplied with the battery itself, so they are not included; if you do need them we will add them, just say so. The kit covers the DC side: the PV array DC board, the AC board and the earthing stay with the project.
