What it does
- The Shelly Gas measures LPG in the air: above the threshold it sounds and sends the notification.
- At the same time it drives the actuator fitted on the gas ball valve, turning it closed.
- The valve is only reopened by hand, once the cause of the alarm has been checked.
- The Plus Smoke on the ceiling sounds and sends the notification in the event of smoke.
- The Flood Gen4 under the sink, with its cable probe, reports water from a leak on the trap or the dishwasher.
- Every alarm arrives in the same app and they can be combined into scenes.

How it is installed
Wi-Fi network. There is no hub: all the devices join the home router on the 2.4GHz network. Check that the Wi-Fi is good in the kitchen and inside the sink unit. In the Shelly app you create the account and the kitchen room. The gas detector must stay powered and connected at all times, because it is what drives the valve.
The gas detector and the valve. LPG is heavier than air: Shelly Gas goes low on the wall, near the hob, at the distances the manufacturer specifies, away from the sink and the hood. The actuator fits onto the existing gas ball valve, with the lever in the position the instructions require, and wires to Shelly Gas. Nothing is done to the pipework: if the valve is not suitable, stop and ask a technician.
Smoke and water. The Plus Smoke goes on the ceiling in the kitchen area, not above the hob or near the hood, to avoid false alarms from cooking fumes. The Flood Gen4 sits on the base of the cupboard under the sink, with the cable probe at the lowest point, where water from a leak collects first. The battery sensors need no cables.
App and pairing. Add every device in the Shelly app with the setup wizard and assign it to the kitchen. Check that the actuator shows as linked to Shelly Gas and try closing it from the app, with the valve free to move. Press the test button on the smoke detector and wet the Flood probe to make sure the notifications come through.
Recommended automations. Closing the valve on a gas alarm is handled by the Shelly Gas: check that it is active. Add notifications for every user of the home for gas, smoke and water. If you have other Shelly sockets or relays, you can switch the hood off or a light on during the alarm. Repeat the tests once a month.
Contents verified. The Shelly Gas, the valve actuator, the Plus Smoke and the Flood Gen4 are all Wi-Fi Shelly devices and are managed in the same app: the actuator is the accessory the manufacturer intends for the Shelly Gas. The detector in the kit is for LPG: with a natural gas hob it has to be swapped for the natural gas version.

Before you order
Do you need a hub?
No. All the devices connect straight to the home Wi-Fi router on the 2.4GHz network and are managed in the Shelly app. All you need is a good signal in the kitchen, including inside the sink unit.
Is the kit suitable for natural gas?
No: the detector included is for LPG, which is heavier than air and is measured low down. A natural gas kitchen needs the natural gas version of the Shelly Gas, which is fitted high up. Get in touch through the contact page and we will tell you the right combination.
Does it work with Alexa, Google or Apple?
The kit runs from the Shelly app, which sends the notifications and drives the valve. The devices can be brought into Alexa and Google Home through the Shelly integrations to see their state. Leave the safety logic for gas and valve to Shelly Gas.
Do you need an electrician or a plumber?
The kit is experienced DIY: the actuator fits onto the existing ball valve without opening the pipework, and Shelly Gas runs off the mains as the manufacturer specifies. If the valve is not a ball valve or cannot be reached, call in a qualified technician.
What happens if there is no internet?
The Shelly Gas sounds and closes the valve locally, with no need for internet, as the manufacturer states. The smoke detector also sounds on site. With no internet, notifications do not reach you away from home until the line comes back.
Are batteries included?
The Shelly Gas runs off the mains. The Plus Smoke works on the battery supplied in the box. The Flood Gen4 runs on AA cells, worth checking for in the box and buying separately if they are missing, preferably lithium ones. The charge level is checked in the app.
Can I add more sensors?
Yes. In the same app you can add more Flood sensors for the bathroom and the washing machine, more smoke detectors and Shelly sockets or relays to switch off when the alarm goes. Each extra device pairs with the same setup wizard.
What if a product is out of stock on Amazon?
