What it does
- The first Shelly Plug IT switches the water heater on only in the time slots when hot water is needed, early morning and evening for example.
- The second socket feeds the bathroom heater, which comes on when the temperature read by the H&T Gen3 drops below the threshold and goes off when it reaches it.
- The H&T Gen3 sensor shows temperature and humidity on its display and sends them to the app.
- The sockets meter consumption: you can see how much energy the water heater uses over the day.
- From the app you switch the water heater on from away, so there is hot water when you get back.

How it is installed
Wi-Fi network. The sockets and the sensor join the home's 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, with no hub. Check that the signal reaches the bathroom and the spot where the water heater is, often a store cupboard or a utility room. Check too that the rating of the water heater and the fan heater stays within the socket's maximum load as stated by the manufacturer.
Smart sockets. One Shelly Plug IT goes into the water heater's socket and one into the fan heater's, then the appliances are plugged into them. The appliances have to be left switched on with their own thermostat set: the plug only gives and takes away power. No multi-way adaptors or extension leads between the Shelly and appliances of this power.
Sensor and batteries. The lithium AA batteries included in the kit go into the H&T Gen3, because the sensor's box does not contain them. The sensor goes in the bathroom at about a metre and a half, away from the shower spray and the warm air from the fan heater, or the reading climbs too fast.
App and pairing. In the Shelly app you add the two sockets and the sensor, with clear names such as “water heater” and “bathroom heater”. For the sensor you choose how often it sends its readings: short intervals make the control quicker to respond but use up the batteries faster.
Recommended automations. The water heater on for one slot in the morning and one in the evening, off the rest of the day. The heater coming on below 20°C and going off above 22°C, only during the hours the bathroom is used, with a maximum run time. A notification if the heater stays on for a long time.
Contents verified. The two Shelly Plug IT sockets and the H&T Gen3 are Shelly Wi-Fi devices managed in the same app: the sensor's readings can drive the heater's socket. The kit includes four Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA cells, because the sensor comes without batteries.

Before you order
Do you need a hub?
No. The plugs and the sensor connect straight to the home Wi-Fi and are managed from the Shelly app. All you need is a router with 2.4GHz Wi-Fi covering the bathroom and the spot where the water heater is.
Will my water heater work with it?
It works if it has an Italian plug and a thermostat of its own, and if its power is within the maximum load the socket's manufacturer states. If the water heater is hard-wired with no plug, a flush-mounted module fitted by an electrician is needed: get in touch through the contact page.
Is it safe to run an electric heater from a smart socket?
Use a heater with its own safety cut-outs and thermostat, plugged straight into the socket with no extension leads. In the app it is worth setting a maximum run time and a notification. Do not leave the heater near curtains or towels, as the manufacturer states.
Do you need an electrician?
No. The plugs go into the existing sockets and the sensor is battery-powered. The only thing to check is that the installation and the wall socket suit the power of the water heater and the fan heater.
Are batteries included?
Yes: the kit includes four Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA cells for the H&T Gen3, because the sensor's own box does not have any. The two sockets are powered from the wall socket and have no batteries.
Does it work with Alexa and Google?
Yes, with the Shelly integrations you switch on in the app: the sockets show up in the assistant and switch on by voice, the water heater before you head back for example. The temperature thresholds are set in the Shelly app.
What happens if there is no internet?
The sockets carry on working as ordinary sockets and the appliances keep their own thermostats. Without internet you lose control from away and the voice assistants; whether schedules and thresholds keep working depends on the manufacturer's local features.
What if a product is out of stock on Amazon?
