Kostal Energy Meter P KEM-P Three-Phase 100A Direct Connection RS485 Modbus RTU
The KEM-P is the meter that lets a storage system be tied to a Kostal inverter: it measures energy flows at the point the inverter needs in order to decide when to charge the battery, when to discharge it and how much to draw from the grid. It is the component that makes managed self-consumption possible, and without a reliable measurement that management simply does not exist.
It works three-phase up to 100A with direct connection: the conductors pass through the meter, no current transformers needed. It sits on a DIN rail in 3 modules (100/72/66mm) and talks to the inverter over RS485 using Modbus RTU. Protection is IP20, so its place is inside the enclosure.
Kostal states it can be used with PLENTICORE plus, PLENTICORE BI and PLENTICORE G3 inverters; the exact list of models and approved application cases is in the Kostal "Approved Energy Meters" document, worth checking before you order. One thing worth knowing: on many systems the KEM is enough and there is no need to move up to the KSEM, which is more capable but also dearer. That saving is often missed because the KSEM goes in out of habit.
