Acrel BR Series BR-90 Flexible Rogowski Coil High Sensitivity IP65

The Acrel BR Series BR-90 Rogowski Coil is a high-sensitivity flexible current sensor. Rather than a rigid ring to be threaded onto a cable, it is a soft sleeve that wraps around the conductor and closes on itself. It measures current where a conventional transformer will not fit: on large busbars, on bundles of cables, or in panels where the line cannot be broken to slip a toroid over it.

The coil connects straight to portable instruments such as power analysers and lends itself to energy consumption monitoring, harmonic and high-frequency analysis, and the capture of non-sinusoidal waveforms. The dynamic range is very wide, from 0.1A up to 500kA, with good linearity across the span and a contained error even when the conductor sits off centre. Unlike a current transformer, the coil draws no power and never saturates.

The BR-90 designation refers to the winding circumference; the series also covers 150, 200 and 300, and Acrel builds other lengths to order. The sleeve is rated IP65, so it withstands dust and water jets, and it goes on in seconds with no tools and without de-energising the measured cable. Panel work should still be left to a qualified electrician.
