Acrel AWT100-AP/WFHEU Data Transmission Module Wi-Fi HaLow 802.11ah 859-894MHz RS485
The AWT100-AP/WFHEU solves the problem of getting data from a measuring point to a collection point when ordinary Wi-Fi cannot manage it. It uses Wi-Fi HaLow, the IEEE 802.11ah standard: it works on lower frequencies than conventional Wi-Fi and therefore covers greater distances and gets through walls, floors and yards far better. The European version of this part number operates in the 859-894MHz band.
It runs in two modes: STA, as a client joining another node, and AP, as the access point others join. That is where the flexibility comes from: you can build a point-to-point link between two distant boards, or a point-to-multipoint link with one module collecting data from several outlying nodes.
On the wired side there is RS485 on an RJ45 connector: that is where the meters, measuring devices or field equipment to be read get connected. Acrel lists as typical applications remote meter reading, building automation and security and electrical load monitoring — all cases where running a data cable to the reading point would cost more than the module itself.
